Did you exercise today?

Recommended Posts

I've been doing pretty good on my exercise, just not posting about it. :bananalama: I have continued with my running program and doing T-tapp on the off day.

I am appreciative of your concern for my hip and you guys have helped me realize I need to take it more seriously, so I have an appointment with my chiropractor for this afternoon. I think he'll better know how to help me than my PCP. I live in a very small town and I'm hoping we have some physical therapists that I can get hooked up with if I need it.

I saw my surgeon yesterday and he recommended a book to me called Chi Running. It's about injury free running. He said he's had great results with not becoming injured while running since reading it. I just ordered it from Amazon.com, so I'm excited to see if those principles can be helpful to me in my running. They also have a book called Chi Walking.

I got a fill yesterday. This was my 6th fill. It doesn't seem like I've gotten fills that often, an average of every other month, but it is my 6th. He gave me .3 ccs and now I have 6.8 ccs in my band. I can tell a pretty big difference with just the liquids I've been consuming. I even have to go slow on the Water. So here's hoping this will kick things into gear for me. It already seems to be helping, as I saw 200 on my scale this morning. I've been at 203 (or above) for what seems like forever. It's been about a month, really. I just may hit onederland by my one-year mark this Sunday.

You guys are doing awesome. Thanks for the support and motivation.

ARGHHH! This is my third time posting a response!!!! This time it will be short and sweet....

SHM - Keep us posted on your hip, and the books! I'm for painless everything! You are almost to onderland - it is so close I bet you can almost taste it!!

Rhapsody - Try not to worry too much in advance. I know, that's easy to say, but try! Keep on the tm and with each step say "Spring is coming, spring is coming"...that's what I do!!

I did 30 min training with weights this morning, and then 30 min on the tm. Out of town company arrived last night so I don't know about exercise this weekend, but I'll see.

Our last fills seem to be doing the trick - I can't believe how I am NOT hungry or grazing now...although I would love to be able to eat before exercise, but my band says NO> No food until 930 or so.

Keep up the good work, and everyone keep on posting!

Thanks once again for the help and kind advice Tap, you are the best! I am staying focused and telling myself not to worry until I have something to really worry about. And I like your saying, "Spring is coming!" Yes, that's keeping me motivated. I wanna feel good in shorts and other cute clothes, be outside and enjoy the warm weather! Too many days in my life I've hid inside. No longer! I love the outdoors.

As for fills - I'm currently loving this one! It has really cut my hunger in half (what a relief) and I feel like a "true bandster" again - eating those small bites and chewing forever, lol. I can't eat in the morning either. Since I'm currently an "at home mom" (otherwise known as a domestic goddess ), I can eat when I want - I usually don't eat Breakfast until about 10 or 11 am. Before that, I just sip on some of my Water intake for the day. I can't exercise on an empty stomach though - I wait until the late afternoon to do my treadmill jog. I have found if I eat a Protein bar about an hour before (they have special ones at the weight loss center at Beaumont Hospital), I find I have lots of stamina and can stay on the tm lots longer, and I feel really good after, and not so tired out.

hanging in there !!

I guess you guys saw my post about hitting Onederland. I'm pretty stoked about it. Yay!

The chiropractor took a long while with me examining me and discussing my hip. He is concerned because after he adjusted it my legs seemed to get weaker. (He was doing the don't-let-me-push-your-leg-down test both before and after the adjustment). He has ordered x-rays for my hip to make sure there isn't anything pathologically wrong in there, although he admitted it would have to be severely deteriorated to be able to see anything. He said to cut my running to just 70% of what I was doing. Since tomorrow's run is supposed to be 6 miles and this would still make it 4.2 miles, I'm not sure what to do. My hip is bothering me quite a bit today and I don't feel like it would be wise to run on it. Maybe I'll take the treadmill for a walk. I really enjoy walking and miss doing it since I've been running. I can't make it in to get the x-rays till next week sometime, so it'll be a little while before we know anything.

I took yesterday off and I'm not sure what I'm doing for exercise today. Maybe T-tapp, maybe I'll rest for today as well. Well, I'm not resting. I have to get the house ready to show by tomorrow morning at 9:00. So I'll definitely be getting some exercise in through housework. (We're renting this home which is on the market.)

That's a great image to keep in the mind - shorts and tshirts and enjoying being outside! I wish I could eat before I hit the Y, and I could before this last fill, but no siree - not now! If it is a choice between a fill that keeps me filled, or eating Breakfast before the Y, I will take the former!

My unsolicited non-medical opinion - don't go running, doin't do the treadmill...rest your hip as much as is possible!

Keeping a house in 'show' condition is such a nuisance, isn't it? Everything has to be 'just so'...that's a pain.

I managed to get in a 30 min really brisk walk...on icy snow covered narrow sidewalks that are identifiable only by the footprints of everyone else who has trudged through. Come on spring - melt this freakin snow!!!

Go Exercisers! I'm taking it easy until I'm pretty sure my hip is better. I'm waiting for my injury-free running book to come as well. Hopefully that will help me when I start up again.

Hi Exercisers!

Well I seen my Orthopedist on Friday...

Bad news is I have the beginning stages of arthritis in my knees. My running/speed & distance walking days are over forever. He gave me a shot of Cortisone in my Left knee for now. It's helping with the pain (however the needle site is sore and bruised!), but he said it will only be given a few times before he writes that surgery is pretty imminent - in both knees in fact... :)

Good news is he has given the me the green light to resume my stationery bike and other exercises, as long as it doesn't require too much of my knees. I start again today, but I'll start light.

Wow, you never think of these things when you're young.

Irene, so sorry for that news. I guess it is what it is and hopefully you can adapt and move forward.

I haven't run since last Wednesday. In fact, I don't think I've exercised at all, really. Ick. I am going to go walking on the treadmill today while my dd is playing basketball at the gym. I'm waiting for my Chi Running book to try their technique of running before I begin again.

No worries, and no excuses... I'll just have to work those calories in ways I may not be accostomed to - but I still have to do it. I'm a bit bummed though because I really did love to run/walk or whatever.

It's really the surgeries I'm not looking forward to, but the good thing about them (2) is that I can hold of on them for a few years probably.

I'm so very sorry to hear this LilMiss, :crying: you are right, one never does think of these things when we are young. I hope your surgeries go smoothly for you, and bring you some relief. Are you able to do any swimming exercises (if there's a place near you that offers it)? I've heard that's good for people with arthritis. You sound like you have a very positive attitude about this, you are still trying to find ways to burn those calories off - good for you! :) I think I'd fall apart for a bit, lol. Hang in there and all my best to you.

ShinyHappyMommy - I'm so sorry to hear about your hip. Of course you are doing the right thing by resting it, but I honestly miss your posts about running! You still amaze and inspire me. I still can't do anything close to that. My knees hurt sometimes, I'm beginning to wonder if I should have them checked out. :tt2:

Still exercising here, getting my dog walks in, but I have to admit my treadmill time is down. Only doing 2 to 2.5 miles on it right now. I've just been feeling tired. Maybe it's the extra walking, or the weather . . . (yeah I know, I'm making excuses ) . . . Michigan weather is rather gloomy this time of the year. I am soooooo done with winter, and we've a few months to go yet. Argh!

My weight has plateaued again , and just after a few pounds lost. I guess I should be more patient, but I just got used to the pounds coming off last summer so fast. Has anyone ever used ankle/wrist weights? I'm wondering if I actually put some weight back on (so to speak) it might give my metabolism a boost. Right now my metabolism seems content with the 1000 calories I'm eating and the amount of exercise I'm doing. Gotta try something different.

(((((warm hugs))))) LilMiss and SHM, I wish you both the best, please hang in there with us. SHM, I'm curious about the Chi Running book . . . did you have the name/author of the book? Let us know how you like it!

Aww, thanks, Rhapsody. I miss running too. Today should have been a running day, so I went and walked my two miles on the treadmill. My dd was still not done with her basketball class so I did a couple more miles on the stationary bike. It said I only burned 60 calories on the bike for those two miles. Of course I wasn't going very fast and the resistance was pretty low. It just seems that the treadmill-workout burns way more calories, even walking.

Here's the website for Chi Running. The author of it is Danny Dreyer. I ordered the book elsewhere, Amazon.com, I think. Maybe it will come tomorrow.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
