Surgery is tomorrow....I'm really nervous!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow morning is my big day! I am so nervous that I haven't even cared that I cant have anything to eat today. My stomach is in a knot...I have been only able to keep down one shake so far.

Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be fine once it's over. I also have a hard time with going under and so I am trying to take all the precautions of anti nausea meds ahead of time so that doesn't happen but there is no guarantee.

If you've ever had a hard time with anesthesia then you understand.

Well, I am off to surf and try to get my mind off things....everything...!

Poodles...try to relax if you can. I had a hard time with the anesthesia and the meds they gave me really made the nausea tolerable. Don't be afraid to speak up if you wake up feeling bad...that's what they are there for...to take care of you.

I was banded on 12/16/08 and I'm back to work full-time and feeling great! I've lost 13 pounds since surgery and am so happy that I did this! I finally feel like I have control.

I wish you the best of luck! The first couple weeks aren't easy, but they aren't as bad as you might think. The human body is an amazing thing and you'll recover before you know it! Just take it slow, follow your surgeons instructions, and wake up each day knowing that you're starting the next phase of your life! Oh...walk, walk, walk. It really does help with the gas and the recovery as a whole.

Blessings!

I wish you well. I had my surgery 11/17/08 and I did great. They gave me meds before surgery and I had no nausa at all. I did follow the no eating program and I think that is what helped.

Unsure,

Mine went ok. I'm pretty thirsty and am in pain but its nothint that I cant control with the pain meds. I guess some are stronger than others b/c I hear people saying they didnt need the meds but I sure do!

I have my discharge papers, which I spilled Water all over including the nurses and chart notes :wink2: ooppps so I cant read what I am supposed to be trying to eat now. I know its liquids but is it Protein shakes, Soup too?

I have to call them this morning for clarification.

Anyway, so how did your surgery go?

I notice you are up early too? i couldnt stay in bed b/c I cant get comfy so I'm in the recliner...my neck hurts also, how about yours?

Mine went well. I was in a LOT of pain after surgery, and I felt like they were withholding drugs from me (which made me bad). I'm still at the hopsital, so the beds work really nice for sleeping... I had just slept to much after the surgery that now I'm wide awake with no one in sight :wink2:

Good Luck 2 u! I've had a few surgeries and feel the same way about going under, even though I knew all would be fine as it always was. You can give your doctor a call and see if there is anything you can take to help the nervousness. I was able to take a xanax to relax before I went in ( very low dose but I was thankful I could take it) Call you doc today and he/she should be able to help. Although it is really normal to be anxious and nervous sometimes the level is really high and it is really uncomfortable. Good Luck

How are doing doing since your surgery? I had my surgery done at EMMC in Bangor. I go for my 6 week check up on Tuesday and hope to have a fill. The last 2 weeks I have not lost any weight. Give us an update.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
