January bandsters our time is coming!!!

Recommended Posts

I go for my first fill this Thursday too, Lyndi. I'm darn near shaking in my shoes, but I'm determined to see this through.

Ooh, fill time already?! I guess it IS about that time though! Keep us posted Lena, I'm curious to hear how it goes!

I don't know why Lyndi is going for a fill so early. It's been a little over a month for me, and I'm not sure I need a fill. There are still some things not going down at all well, like some of the meats. Plus, I'm still losing weight at the comfortable rate of 2-3 pounds a week.

For example, I had a terrible evening last night over the rare Marco Polo Steak I served. I measured a small 3 oz portion, cut it up into tiny bits, and tried to eat slowly. All my efforts were in vain. It got stuck anyway, and I spent a miserable hour until all the meat passed the stoma. What a relief when it did! :cursing:

Like Theresa, Dr. Baptista has put me on Miralax. (Happy sigh) What a relief-- literally. My wallet may dislike the cost, but I refuse to do without my morning dose in my coffee now.

For those on mushies who need a change, if you can handle semi-solids like well-cooked veggies and ground meat, go look on my blog here. I posted a recipe called Sausage and Egg Cups. You can change out the meat, veggies, and cheeses to get some variety, and by making several at once you can freeze what you can't eat. I made a batch this past Sunday, and I'm still munching my way through the collection. It's a great "grab and go" sort of meal. I plan on making a version with salmon, asparagus bits, and a white cheese mix leftover from another recipe this weekend.

I just read your post and am wondering why the Dr's are so different?? I got banded on the 19th of January and do not go for my fill until March 3???? Anyone knowwhy this is?

Hey soontobeme,

i was banded Jan 19th and I get my first fill Feb 20th. According to the NP as long as its at least 1 month.

The amount of difference is really amazing between different doctors. I guess its for the best that each doctor have a certain amount left to his/her judgement, since each person is different.

Truthfully, I think part of it speaks to the lack of medical standards.

One time I got a blood test to see what my hormone levels were. They said that my level of a certain hormone was 4X what it should be. I was really worried, then I started to research and found out that in many other labs that exact same result was cosidered to be on the low end of normal.

Kinda makes me wonder....

I was banded on the 14th of January--I may get a fill next Tuesday (the 10th) but the NP said they are booked up that day, so I'll probably have to wait till the 17th.

I'm on a full diet (meats, raw veggies etc) and not had anything get stuck and--even with getting the Protein in first, sometimes thats all I have for a meal--I'm still hungry 2 hours later.

Not drinking with meals. the NP said there isn't really any restriction at all at this point, and don't I know it!

I'm losing very slowly but I'd be happy just to not be so hungry.

I don't know why my dr. already had me get a fill. But he wanted me in at about 3 weeks to get it done. I went today and he said that I should not need a filll now though for at least 2 months. I thought it was weird too, cause it seems like I am the only one that has had a fill this early.

Surgery jan. 17, 2009

1st fill. Feb. 5, 2009

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
