2 Days out and starving...help

Recommended Posts

:cursing:Hi eveyone

I was banded 2 days ago and I am starving. Is this normal? If I didn't know any better, I would think the Dr didn't even band me. I am starving and feel no restriction at all. I am only doing liquids, but I thougth I would feel some kind of restriction. Has anyone else had this and how do you get though it? Because if I am going to be this hungry till my 1st fill, I am going to knaw off my own arm. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

You are starving because you are on a liquid diet. Please don't expect restriction until you go in for adjustments.

Take this time to heal and eat. My doc allowed mushies at day 2 and then a few days later was 'as tolerated'.

Like you I was starving and I was a basket case - crying, depressed, basically a pity party for one.

A person like me who ate massive amounts of food daily to get cut off to only liquids- yeah, right.

But talk to your doctor. Allow them to guide you thru this process. Don't worry about losing weight-it will come.

You are so not crazy. I was banded Tuesday and I am starving too. The Protein Shakes really do help though and I try and think of it as nourishing my body to heal. Good luck, i know it will get better for us!

Same day, huh? How are you feeling? I actually have been feeling pretty good. Less pain today. I am drinking the Boost Protein Drinks and they do fill me up but it just seems that I am hungry real soon after. I need to remember to drink my Water too.

Have you had the gas problems? Mine have been minor but my sister-in-law (we did it together) has had pretty bad cramping.

Anyway, good to meet you and keep in touch and Good Luck!

I'm 5 months out but remember well how hungry I was a few days after banding. Until you get your fills, you may well stay hungry. It took until my 3rd fill 2 months out for me get the hunger to a manageable level, 4th fill helped a lot and at 5th fill I think I'm very close to "sweet spot." Most bandsters here will tell you it takes several fills so don't get discouraged and do your best to control portions--eventually, the band will help but until then, it can be difficult. The key is not to give up and stick to the rules. AVOID high cal/low nutrition foods. Protein also helps to control hunger. Try to get it from solids when you move on to solid stage.

Yup, same day. I am feeling pretty good. The soreness has really let up and I never really had bad gas either. Been burping some and hiccups. The burps kind of hurt.

Angella....You are feeling the normal things......when you move to mushies....try something like oatmeal or Cream of Wheat with Brown Sugar....it is warm and fills you up.........and eat things like yogart and stuff that will stick with you a bit.....you will still be hungry until you get a few fills like others have stated out here.

Good Luck.

It is normal to feel hungry when you are on liquids. Make sure you are getting in tons of Water, that helps.

Just remember, staying on the liquids will help you heal well so you can really let the band start helping you in the near future. This stage is no fun, but thank goodness it passes quickly.

I was just banded 12/17 and like you am HUNGRY! Dr. said I am able to eat mushy after day 2. Thinned cream of wheat and Protein Powder in fat free milk helped a great deal today!!! I am to get 50 grams Protein. (Not hard with shakes)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
