  1. 1. How Many Calories do you and still lose weight? (not counting exercise)

Recommended Posts

At least two days a week i stick to 1000 calories, i aim for 3 days a week but on 1000 calories im a miserable person to live with. Im fine with 1200-1500 any less then that and im cranky, hungry and tired.

I found the poll helpful!! I upped my calories so 1200 (but often came under) and lost 4 pounds this week!! I hadn't lose in 3 weeks, so I was probably in "starvation mode."

How did you guys decide how many calories you should have?

I tried the calculator at Livestrong and it was like 2200! I struggling to get the 1,000! Any suggestions?

Sweetz I see you are still in your first month right? If you are still on liquids and or mushies I would suggest Muscle Milk 2 times a day that would give you 60gms of Protein and 600 calories, you should be able to get in the other 600 in what ever you are allowed to have.As to how do we decide it is trial and error.

I agree with BamaGirl, trial and error is best. If you don't know where to start 1000-1100 is as good a place as any.

I know I could never hope to lose on 2200 per day though, that is wayyy too high.

I track my daily calorie intake and it ranges between 1,000-1,200 with a fill/restriction. I didn't decide that was the number for me. It's just what I am consuming right now. This is kind of amazing to me, because before I was banded I was eating 3,000 to 3,500 calories a day....Huge Portion Control issue.

Same here, it was just where I sort of landed with the right restriction for me.

Mind you, I was a relatively "slow" loser, it was always about a pound a week. I didnt have spectacularly fast weight loss, but from this point of view, 3 years down the track, I dont really care, lol. Its gone for good now, however fast it came off.

I'm with Aubrie on this one. My calorie intake is highly variable on many factors. I may eat 1000 one day and 1800 the next. So I would say 1400 on average.

I eat between almost 900- almost 1200. It's rare that I'm consistant every week except right after a fill. I've now been the same for 2 weeks with no loss. This seems to be a pattern with me. I went 3 weeks b4 with no loss then suddenly 5lbs came of within 3 days. I hope that's the case this time. It's frustrating when u put in the work and not see resultls weekly. It's like working a full time job and not getting paid at the end of the week. I don't know if it's bcuz I'm not getting enough calories everyday or what. Is there ever a magic solution?:sneaky:

I've been steadily increasing my calorie intake and I'm have an average of 2099 per day over the past 5 weeks. It breaks down 36% Carbs, 31% Protein, 30% fat (which is 7% saturated - 5% poly - 8% Mono)... Consistantly losing 3 pounds a week, but with LOTS of intense cardio exercise.

I try hard to eat at least 1,200. Sometimes if I eat less than that one day I up it the next. I don't eat more than 1,400 calories.

Well my body is...strange and horrible then. I only lose weight if I eat under 900-1000 calories a day. If I eat around 1200-1500 I start gaining...:) damn.

Everyone is different when it comes to how they lose weight, so your body is neither strange or horrible!!!

Remember not all calories are created equal. When I eat cheese too many days in a week as part of my cal count, I stop loosing. Some Proteins have more fat then others...

Currently eating around 500 cal/day, and losing about 3#/wk, with 30-80 minutes of walking about every other day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
