My surgeon was Dr.Baggs......he rocks!!

Ok...so today...wow...feeling pretty good...only woke once in the night and was able to go back to sleep......other than my tummy being bloated I can see my weight loss every where...thats exciting....

The spasm I'm pretty sure was from to much liquid...I had taken my 2 tsp of liquid med then sucked on a whole popsicle.....learned that lesson!!!!

THanks for all your posts everyone it helps so much!!

I am having a hard time with one thing.....food...I miss it...I've heard people talk about it but I never gave it much thought...I acctually cried last night when the 3rd comcercial for pizza came on during American Idiol!!! Really do they need that many food commercials? We get the point!!!!! But like my hubby said I can have it again just smaller portions!!! THats what I needed, help with smaller portions!!!!

Anyway, today is a good day!!!! I'm going to my sons pre school today, they are having the kids bring a nail polish in and there moms have to bring a tea cup.....I think they are serving us tea (good I can have that

!!!) and the kids are painting our fingers...cute huh? Good thing I have some light colors!!!

Reggie...your so close....girl I am not going to sugar coated it, its tough....but I have a pretty good feeling we are tough group of women.....everyone is right each day gets better!!!!!!

Thanks candy, I know it's going to be tough. I was walking hours after my C-section and didn't feel much pain for too long, so I hope I can weather this process too. You are so funny about the food commercials, the interesting thing is that you see 3-4 commercials with food and then one for healthy living(exercise) comes on LOL. We (our society)are so engaged with food it's ridiculous. We are working past the all food mentality right ladies??? :-) . Needless to say I am struggling this week because its almost TOM and I don't have any wiggle room to cheat since my classes are next week and surgery a week from next Tuesday. I feel like I can eat a horse right now! HELP!!!!!

I hope all is well with everyone.

The binder says 1/4 - 1/3 cup so I would go to 1/3 cup. Sorry to tell you that you will feel hungry - that is what is called bandster hell. Have a sugar free popsicle. I ate kind of runny cream of wheat in stage 2 as it seemed to stick with me a little longer.

Go to 1/3 cup you will be fine, candy. I had to do that as well.

I know what your saying about the food commercials. That first week I was mad because I couldn't eat. I was mad at myself and the TV........I kept thinking if only you had controlled yourself you would not have needed this band.....I was just sorta mad about the whole thing and feeling sorry for myself I could not eat anymore. Thinking I didn't need to band than yes I do..............Again I didn't like the first week much..........you all know that!!

Now almost four weeks out I am fine again. Commercials don't bother me. I realize now that I am on mushies I can eat just not as much......still waiting for my salad though. And darn it I still would like a diet coke................but I feel more positive about the whole thing.

I go back to work on Monday and everyone Snacks and eats out. I am wondering how I will fit back it. It will be interesting to see. I haven't told anyone and so I just want to blend back in. I have lost 15 pounds since I was last at work so I figure that might be an issue but hey surgery is stressful right makes you lose weight!! LOL

I am stuck now at 217. But like Candy noticed my body is changing shape anyway. So I guess it is all good.

Sorry to say but I am getting smaller and smaller on top and not losing on my lower half..........but that is how I gained it bottom to top!! I hope I even out soon!!

Nicole tells us what it is like..............:-)

Reggie I hear ya girl!! I was so nervous and busy at work before surgery I didn't eat much and lost 5 more pounds!!

But now after......that head hunger is a killer that has got to be the most frustrating part of all of this for me!! I think I need to eat when I am not even hungry than have to argue myself out of it!! Tires me out.............LOL!!

I know you can do this you are so, so close now!!!

Have you guys heard of Myocel Protein Powder? I was surfing the net and came across it, it appears some doctors had their patients go on 1-2 weeks liquid diet before surgery.

Good Evening Ladies !Thank you all for the warm welcome .Yes ,I am a Kaiser Member in NoCal .I am really trying to figure out if this is the right decision for me .I have always been the big girl ,which seriously I had no problem with .Now though at 335 I do have a problem .

I'm just wondering though If I ask my Dr for the refferal can she say no ?LOL ,that'd seriously suck if she did .Also ,I know there are risks ,but honestly other than being in pain and of course making it through the surgery itself ,what is the process ?

I gotta be honest the psych evauluation kinda freaks me out ?Is it just me ?Also the pre op testing like for apnea ?I know I can look all that up but I'd feel better if I could hear it from people who've actually been through it ,not just text online or in a book ?Ya know ?

Zoe good to see you back.

Regarding the referral from your doctor,1. your meet the weight criteria for the surgery.2. You are at risk for serious health issues. You have to decide if this is what you really want. I have brewed over this for the past 31/2 years and finally decided to do the lapband only because I know I need that assistance in controlling my poor eating habits. If you are confident that you can lose weight and keep it off then I won't suggest this. As most of us on here will tell we have all attempted the 20, 40 60 80lbs weight loss, however I can truly tell you that I have not been successful at keeping it off and I refuse to fool myself to think that I can do it all on my own. The band is a tool to help us reach our goals, we have other difficult tasks such as fighting our inner demons, ie.food , depression etc.

The Psych eval is a breeze they want to make sure that you are not adddicted to food, depressed or obsessed with food and or other behaviors that may prevent you from losing and maintaining your weight with LB or gastric Bypass. We all have some sort of stress and it doesn't necessarily mean that we are depressed (trust I've had my moments) So don't be scared. I had Dr.Schnurr, and she was super cool!

You go through sleep apnea if you have sleeping issues or snore. I don't have to have that test because the above items don't apply and Ladies please add on on or correct me if I am wrong about the apnea.

Clearly something has provoked your interest in bariatric surgery, so take your time and make your decision. We are here to support you. The good thing is that you go through this experience with people who have been there and done that.

What City do you live in?

So this will be my second time typing this all out. I dont think i will type as much... I had a NOVEL!! Took me 20 min earlier lol.. then poof its gone! HOOOW irritating!

Ok,

so good and bad news,

Bad mom is moving to San Jose..

Good news I got my fill. The penole office is beautiful.

I weighed in at 201 which i was happy with considering they made me wear my sandals not flippie flops. Since i forgot sox.. no good!! But whatever.

Went to the room, and sat and waited... lol... hear LIZ... not her personally but her name there was a preop talking about her.. but all i could understand was Liz. OOOH and my appt was at 4:30!!! but i got there at 9:30!!! Lol dr baggs and i were confused, but hes all i wish i woulda got you in sooner.

Well, he asked how everything is going, he shook his head about how the pcp said to take metamucil, he said no to that. ALSO no to taking stool softners every day, he said they are not a good thing. Just benifiber.

Asked about my excersize food, yadda yadda. Told him i think my band isnt there and he laughed. I layed down and he found my port said it was perfectly placed (LOL OF COURSE HE PLACED IT) marked around it..

Then the nurse came in he numbed me.. that was the worst part.. pretty stinging.. worse then a bee sting, not tear jerking. Then the needle came, MY FEAR so i shut my eyeballs. I swear to god i didnt even feel it!! I could feel the liquid in the band.. bbut thats it. i told him it felt cool lol.. Then they ahd me drink Water and he asked "is it coming out your nose" and let me on my way:)

Very simple process.

I did write out more earlier but i feel like crap.. i caught a cold somehow:(

candy move up to 1/3 thats what i had to do. And try thicker liquids.. I got to the point i was pureeing chili for feeling full.. i just made sure to stay under yogurt consistency..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
