I would like to pose a question to the entire group. When we make bad choices do we really know why we do and often why can't we stop ourselves?

I ask this because I feel we all have our individual "big elephants" that we either refuse or are simply afraid to address. I have found a few things about my self these few months since surgery and especially of recent weeks. I really have to face. It is far beyond the band and weight. I think addressing emotional and psychological issues is a big part of our success that our program missed. Some of us are being treated but not fully. Any thought??

Sometimes I just don't know why I made a bad decision. Sometimes I eat unplanned food because I feel entitled, like I'd been doing so well all week so I "deserved" a treat. I also feel a bit exhausted with the diet, even though I've been off track for a few months, I still feel like I've been dieting non-stop. I think Sac needs a few of those head hunger classes Pat and Riley raved about. Sign me up!

Speaking of... Miss Riley- We miss you! I'm glad you're enjoying life. Isn't that the whole point? :(

Reggie- March 20- Pat has invited us out to Petaluma. We're going to do the wetlands walk that Riley tried to get us to do all those months ago and I think lunch after. Will you join us?

Thanks Coco! I used cocoa butter with Vitamin E or a cool cloth will help.

Heather thanks for responding to my question. I wish I could make it to the Wetlands walk, I have to go to Morgan Hill that weekend, but I will be at the Point West meeting this month. Thanks for the invite.

Thanks Tina, Isn't it interesting that our weight was unfortunately the temporary band aid that we put on. I like the twelve step idea. I plan on making an appointment with Kaiser to work out my stuff too! I truly think part of Riley and Pat's success is the Head group/class that they attend, they can chime in with their thoughts as well.

I am sure your grandparent's memory helps at times :-). I am doing better, i still get anxiety aout going on the freeway. Thanks for asking. Please don't chill too long we will miss ya. I have a CPS question for you I will PM you or email you on FB so please keep an eye out for it. I wish you the best Tina, these are times that you need people! Let me (us ) know if there is anything we can do. Always remember God is in control, he wont dish out what he knows you can;t handle. These are life lessons.Be well!

I did in the past Tina, but I realized that my issues is not overeating it is the problems that triggered the weight gain. I will do individual therapy and see how that goes. Let me know if you decide to try out. It is funny that we help people in our line of work but we cant do the same for ourselves. There is an African proverb that states " A healer cannot heal themselves" that is so true.

Yes Tina I would like her information. Go and get some rest! LOL.

I had my surgery two years ago. It's never worked properly. After a few fills, there was never the amount in it that they said and I never got to the 'sweet spot' or even felt full. After about 9 months of no success the band became really tight (without any fills) then they couldn't get anything out of it. It was arranged that I'd have it removed in emerg. three times but I got bumped. I've seen four different doctors through the clinic I used and all have said the band isn't working properly and I need surgery to see what the problem is. Just in the last short while I've started to have periods where I can't get anything down - not even Water - and when I try I get a lot of bile and throwing up. It's worse than the slim.

Now the clinic wants $3,500 to take it out. The current doctor thinks I'll be too swollen to put a new band in and will be able to have a resurgery after another six weeks or so. Haven't heard the final price on that yet - they're still discussing but it's definitely not included in the previous $15,000 and now and $3,500.

The second last totally closed off was horrible - I was throwing up continually for about fifteen hours and then still couldn't even sip water.

I'm about ready to try emergency again since I don't think I can take this much longer. My metabolism is soooo screwed up I haven't had any more than about 1200 calories total in the last three days and I'm still not losing weight.

I just want the clinic I started with to take care of me and as a responsible business cover these costs.

Anyone experience anything like this one?

HELP!!!

Hi Reggie! Sorry about your second Mom! Your next fill if coming, you can do it!!!! For me eating tasty food is satisfying and makes me feel good. Whichever surgery we have it’s the head hunger that we have to overcome.

Heather thanks for the kind words! You're next, we are rooting for you!!!!!

Sharon Stagnara at Kaiser Morse Avenue. She is an anxiety specialist so maybe not totally right for you but I really, really like her. She had me figured out in about 20 minutes and admit I am pretty guarded with that kind of stuff. SHe totally got me. I need to go back........:-)

She sent me a letter telling me to come back when I am ready. That is why I said last week sometimes we might need to put ourselves first I was thinking of that class.

Thanks Tina I will look her up.

Analynn, having been recently Sleeved, I can only offer my personal opinion. The Sleeve doesn't require follow-up for fills and unfills. The results for the Sleeve are as good or better than the RNY. The Sleeve is made from the muscular part of the stomach so that it should not stretch the way that the RNY pouch does. The Sleeve doesn't have malabsorption the way that RNY does so once the Sleeve is healed and you've lost your weight, you can eat anything in small amounts if that's what you choose to do. Kaiser has the same eating plan, regardless of the surgery. I would be happy to answer any questions if you PM me. Also, I would suggest checking out our sister website.. verticalsleevetalk.com or go to Obesityhelp.com and find the Sleeve forum to ask questions.

I love my Sleeve!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
