gotcha! I'll email my personal dr. now and see what she says...she's kinda weird but thats okay LOL

Riley - mmmmmmm what kind!!!

LaChica - out of curiousity, how did you get your weight loss pre-surgery amount before orientation?

I just Guestimated.. from my understanding I know they usually tell you to lose at least 10% of your current weight, which would roughly be 20lbs for me? but right now I just got my monthly friend in.. and my weight fluxuates from 196-200 so yeah.. Guestimation.. how much do you think I really need to lose b4 surgery?

ok I'm happy now...got the skinny latte.

Yea Maria, so yes there will be 3 of us, how exciting.

Oh Chica you sound like you are my size, I had to loose 19lbs, I'm at 23 right now. You know they take your orientation weight as the starting point...so don't start dieting yet.

ok I'm happy now...got the skinny latte.

Arent they the BEST?????? LOL!!

LaChica - It all depends on the surgeon, as my loss was more then 10% (32 lbs) while some had to loose alot less. One person Heather, I believe needs to loose 80?

Sound advice, Jes. And Chica, CONGRATS on the quitting smoking!!! That alone shows your committment to a new and healthier life. I smoked for 15 years until June 15, 2006, so I know all too well!!! I don't even know you and already I'm super-proud of you!!!

Richmond orientation is held on Wednesdays, so you probably have an overview class locally on that Friday . . . . I think that's a new requirement now, Tamra can fill you in on it . . . but no worries, you are ON YOUR WEIGH! (get it? Way? Weigh? LOL) Don't lose weight before orientation!

I had to lose 30 per Dr. Baggs, but I lost 43 . . .my PCP said he wanted me to lose 15% of my body weight before surgery, so that was the goal I set for myself (42.75 lbs., as I started at 285) The more you lose the easier surgery is, I had a super-easy experience & recovery. But the only thing that we know for SURE is that we are all different!!! And the docs know that . . so they say to count on requiring a 10% loss, it may be a little more and it may be a little less. Apparently one of the reasons that Heather has to lose so much is because she has not had children yet(!)? Only the surgeon knows for sure . . . .

Welcome Temp Tubby and LaChica

Stick on this site this is a great support group here!!

I had orientation on December 12, 2008 and surgery on April 13, 2009. I had to lose 12 pounds which I lost in a little over a month but I put my surgery out cause I went to AFrica for almost a month. My surgeon and Liz strongly encouraged me to go own my trip but told me not to gain weight. or my surgery would get cancelled. I mostly stayed on the diet but had to eat rice just case that was what they served mostly in AFrica where I was. But I lost about 10 pounds over there so I was down 25 by the time I had surgery. I also had to walk everywhere in Africa so that helped me lose weight fast over there!! :-) Good timing.

Best decision I have made. I have lost 44 pounds I think need to check my ticker again!! I changed it this morning!! LOL.

LaChica: LOL about your dead weight I did that too!! Smoking good thing you quit cause no surgery until you quite and they do a nicotine test before surgery. No caffiene or carbonation although I drank diet coke until the day before surgery but nothing since!! Also how do you know your goal weight already. They usually tell you that at your surgeons appointment? A word to the wise DON"T lose weight before orientation that is your starting weight!! Wait until the 14th to start. Stick with this group you'll do fine we can walk you through this!!

I recommend Dr. Baggs!! Just my preference

OKAY GUESS WHAT!!

My ex called saying he wanted to meet for pizza at Skipolini's a pretty popular pizza joint. So me and my bestfriend met him there with my daughter.

While they feasted on pizza, salads, and beer, I drank Water with lemon, didn't pull anything off the pizza (I wanted some pepporoni sooo bad), and I waited. Now I am home cooking my steak and broccoli  defeated!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
