wondering about the insurance and if you all would do it again?

Would you do it again? Is it worth it in the end? It does not sound like it is too bad. It sounds like a different world all this fill stuff, but I think I know what people are talking about. I really want to do this, I am just scared that it maybe something I can not undo. I have heard so many scary story's.

Yes, I would do it again tomorrow. It was an easy surgery and recovery for me. I have had 3 fills, lost 50 lbs, in 5 months.

My insurance coverage was 70/30, and fills are covered, less my co-pay.

It isn't a magic anything, but it is a realistic alternative to gastric bypass surgery and a chance to free myself from morbid obesity.

I'm only 3 months out but would do it again in an instant. My doc is a slow-goer and I don't really have restriction yet, but realize I am full on less, and can go longer between meals. For me it's like stopping a train and turning it into a new direction...slow slow, but I can see the new way I am headed and it's very exciting.

So yes, worth every bit!

As far as insurance goes, it depends on your employers agreement with the isurance company as to weather or not they will cover the band. Then if they do cover it they go by BMI if your BMI is under 35 they will not even consider you for the surgery. 35-40 you may qualify if you have any illness due to being over weight. 40 and above, they most of the time just go with BMI.

I was too chicken to do any other surgery the band is 10 time safer than anyother WLS out there. For me that was all I needed to hear.

Good luck!

I had the surgery in April, 08. It was covered by Aetna Insurance; they covered pretty much all of it. I've had three fills, lost 100 lbs so far, and would do it again in a HEART BEAT!! No question- this is one of the best decisions I have EVER made for myself.

I would do it again in a second! I am only 6 weeks out and love it. My insurance covered the surgery at 90% after a six month attempt at weight loss with my DR. My fill for the first 6 weeks post op are covered as part of the surgery and then after that I have a copay. 25 I think. But so worth it, because I get to meet with a dietician after every fill. I shouldve done this years ago. Good luck in your choice. And by the way had first fill Monday and there was no pain. They even numb it.

i would do it all over again as many have stated.

i wish insurance would have paid (BMI not high enough), and i also wish it didn't take 8 fills for restriction. both of these i had no control over so, there was the need for a bit of self control early out. now the band works they way i had imagined.

I would do it again in a heart beat. Insurance approval was fast and easy. I ended up staying in the hosipital longer because they found something that would not have been found if I did not have surgery. This surgery was a blessing. I had my first fill today and it was painless.

I went private pay (BMI too low for insurance) and would do it again, too. I was banded just over 6 weeks ago, am down nearly 15 lbs (through Thanksgiving, no less!) and have been surprised by how easy the surgery was. Good luck with your decision! :)

I was self-pay due to insurance not covering the procedure...

YES. I would do it again. I wish I would have done it sooner. I am a new person. Not just physically, but mentally too. My brain was rewired by my band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
