Ok, all you experienced banders. I am newly banded (just this last Monday). Today, both my kids have got the stomach flu and are throwing up. Obviously, I'm concerned that since I'm newly banded, should I catch it and have violent vomiting I will displace my band. Anyone have any experience with a stomach bug after being banded?

Maybe you should ask your dr for some Phenergen in case you do get it. I am worried about that too, although I am 5 months out. But before I caught anything that came around. Also, someone on this site said they take Acidophilus for intestinal health. It is a natural thing and I hope it works. I have been on it for about a month now.

The exact same thing happened to me, I'd been home from hospital literally 2 days and the kids started chucking.

I went straight to the doctor, told him I was newly banded and was really worried about throwing up, because of course, by the time you realise your kids have gastro, they've been all over you and touched everythign in the house and its way too late to start being careful.

The doc gave me a script for an anti emetic, which would stop nause and vomiting. A couple of days later, i felt myself coming down with it so I started taking the pills six hourly. I had a temperature and aches and pains and got diarrhoea but no stomach symptoms. The medication also gave me horrible side effects such as drowsiness, but I never came even close to vomiting.

I too have a filled prescription for phenergan on hand for just in case. If you come down w/bug before monday, call your surgeon; he should have an emergency service. And if not, call him on Monday and ask what he wants you to do if it comes up again.

My doctor told me that banded patients only throw up what is on top of the band. Anything below the band won't come back up. Kinda scary - if you get the flu, I would think you would be more miserable if you couldn't "release" it. Good luck. Hope you don't get it!

Well, I don't know how, but I escaped without vomiting. Turns out my mother infected nearly the entire family on Thanksgiving. She had it the day before but thought she was ok, but was really still contagious. Out of 17 people, 14 got it. The hubby started throwing up shortly after the kids, and I really thought about going to the ER to be safe. I did have a couple of phenergan suppositories, that were two years old, so I used them, but was already in the throes of it. I had horrible diarrhea and stomach cramps and general lethargy, but never felt like I was going to vomit. Don't know if it was sheer grace of God, or if it was because I had just had the surgery and my stomach was so messed up that the bug couldn't take hold, or (although they say penicillin doesn't work on viruses) if it was the massive shots of antibiotics I got on surgery day. Either way, I hope NONE of you get it, it was particularly virulent AND violent.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
