December 23rd bandsters

I can't wait for Dec. 23 @ 8:30am to get here!! On Day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet...UGH! I guess it's not that bad. I've made it through two work-related holiday luncheons/prties this week.

I'm glad to hear that you may have a say in where the port goes. Have lots of questions about fills.

I have the "pleasure" of having to surgeons attend my surgery. I do NOT want Dr. Olsofka. HORRIBLE bedside manner. And seems shady to me.

We're on our way to a healthier, thinner day!!!

well gang!!! how did it go for you? I was in surgery at 9.30 and home by 3pm. No real pain, little sore in the left shoulder and a little sore around the port site...but that's it right now. sipping on warm tea, Water, Jello in phases. feel good, been up and walking around since i got home. watching White Christmas on TV. and just relaxing.

Sure hope your journey has had a pleaseant begining like mine. The nurses and staff were SO suppportive and encouraging. big smiles all around.

Be blessed this Christmas season, and keep in touch. Nicci:thumbup:

I'm officially banded as well! My procedure was 12/22 at 1pm. Everything went smoothly and was much easier than I ever dreamed it would be. For all those getting banded soon, try not to stress yourself out about the surgery as you wolnt remember any of it and the pain is far less than I was thinking it would be! Good luck Dec 08'ers.

I was banded the 22 and looking for pain meds. Can't take loritab, vicodin, codine, and the darvocet needs to be crushed- too bitter to take. Anyone get something else liquid?

I was banded yesterday, 12/23. Did good in recovery. Had a little difficulty urinating. Got home by 2pm and the journey from hell began. I was able to sip about 8oz of Water, eat two popsicls and 4-6 teaspoons of Jello. I was given the option of taking a pain reliver over the counter (i got tordol in the hospital but it wore off quickly!!) or a prescription one that my insureance did not cover. I choose tyleno extra - strength. Didn't work. I choose Aleve and Ibuprofen. Neither worked. I laid in the bed writhing in pain until 2am when my Mother, who's watching me and is a nurse, was at her wits end and bundled me up and headed off to the drug store. I filled my prescription of Celeberex (14 pills for $62!!). I finally stopped moaning about 5am today and got some rest. WHEW!!!

Going to have some Water and hot tea and maybe some broth later. What an exprerience. It will be worth it though!

things i have learned that might be useful to other newbie bandsters....

1. wear a button-down shirt (it's easier to get on and off after surgery)

2. i bought small plastic bathroom cups to make Jello in - perfect portion size

3. have your doc use theON-Q pain buster ball,it is amazing, i have not gone above a 3 in pain (out of 10). if he doesn't know what it is, have him google on-q pain buster.....

4. get all the help you can, so that you can rest and recover, no need to rush into going back to work, unless you absolutely have to.

5. stay in touch on line here, the support is wonderful.

well, back to sipping warm tea, and a Jello for me. all is well here, take care friends. nicci

I got my band on the 22nd. Lortab worked but I needed to get a Rx for phenergan because the zofran tabs did not work and I had major nausea. I am off of all pain/nausea meds as of yesterday the 24th. Now, I am just having a hard time eating enough of anything to get Protein in me. And also...maybe too much info...still have not had a bm. Missing certain foods this Xmas season, but not hungry at all. Which I am very grateful for. Hope everyone else is doing well. Laura

I got banded on the 23rd and am doing well. My tummy is a bit sore and I have a slight pain in my shoulder now and again.

I'm tired of liquids .... It isn't that I'm hungry but more I just want a variety of tastes in my mouth..and I miss chewing things.

I'm glad to see so many "band date" buddies!

I had a really difficult time with pain and ended up getting Loratab. That helped. Walking a lot helps me too. I am able to tell a gas pain from a regular pain from a hunger pain and can tell when I'm full. :)

Had difficulty with elimination also. After prune juice and serveral doses of a laxative, I choose something that I loathe...coffee. After a few sips, releif came. :tongue_smilie:

I have my first appointment with my exercise therapist tomorrow and will return to work (office job) on Wednesday.

Congrats to us all!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
