How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

Since I was 1 week post op I am on full liquids, however I was told I could eat some mashed potatos. So I had some, and I mashed up green bean casserole.

One of the girls made a apple pie........ it was with splenda...... and I mashed some of that up too!

I did really well!!

I did very well at Thanksgiving dinner. I drank a Protein Drink before I went to dinner and it helped with the hunger so I was able to be selective in what I chose to eat. I did not over indulge in any cakes or pies and I ate my Proteins first then vegetables. I was afraid of sliming and getting stuck. This last fill really helps me stay in line with how much I can eat. This was the first Thanksgive in a long time that I did not stuff my face with everything on the table. One of the many things I am thankful for this year, is the lap band.

I did a lot better than I have ever done in previous years. I ate maybe 1/4 of what I would normally eat in one sitting. I still ate more than I thought I should be able to eat. I was not able to eat the turkey later in the day (it was too dry). I am working to get back on track for today.

I'm happy to report that I did fairly well with Thanksgiving Day... I planned to give myself the opportunity to feel normal and happy.. I was happy with a bit of this and a taste of that. I did have a homemade crescent roll and a half piece of pumpkin pie with real whipped cream.. I was content and unstuffed and proud of myself for not feeling that "stuffed misery" that is usual on days like this... Never again, I hope!!!! congrats to all of us for perservering and counting our lap-band blessings... Now.... on to Christmas cookies!!!?? I'm more worried about them than anything.. They are a weakness of mine... Take care all.... Julie

I didnt do so well....I wasnt able to eat much at all. I received a fill last week on 11/19 and i am really feeling restriction. I am up to 6.25cc in my band and i can barely eat anything, I thought about having some taken out but the dr said I am fine. If I am throwing up then we have a problem. I can eat but i guess I just have to get used to eating very small amounts. That was different for me for this thanksgiving. I was only able to eat a bite or two of turkey macoroni and spaghetti. But this is what I asked for and on the positive note I am down 11 pounds in just one week after this last fill.

I also have big losses after a fill. I always enjoyed them because they were usually preceeded by weeks of barely any loss.

Now that you are tightly restricted, you might find that macaroni and spaghetti may be a problem. I find for me that I can only eat 1/3 of what I can normally eat if it is Pasta and I get sick so easy on it. Pasta can expand in your pouch in a very uncomfortable way at restriction. I used to love it, now I just don't want to hassle with it anymore.

i did pretty well. I did decide to cook and made a jenni o turkey the ones that can be frozen straight to oven. that was the best bird i ever had, very nice and juicy. I had about 2 oz of turkey. a couple tablespoons of stuffing, and a little bit of mashed taters with a whole wheat roll. after lettin that settle for about two hours. I had a couple bites of banana cream pie. ( that was lunch) for din i had some more turkey and some canned spinach. I feel I did really well as i stopped when i was full I love all the left over turkey i have. love the stuff and its really moist so easy to eat

I had a good Thanksgiving ... a little lonely but that was my choice. Instead of going to my relatives (they are 7 hours away and we go for 4 days) I stayed home since I am only a week out of surgery.

My husband and I decided that it would be best to pass up the temptations this year and just focus on me and my band 100% and next year I'll be on program.

So it's nice that it's over and I didn't vary from my liquids which is the stage I'm on. Plus I took myself to the movies ... all alone! My most favorite treat ever. I love going to the movies by myself.

Now if I can get through the onslaught of Cookies at work ... I'm 100% good to go.

yeah, my thanksgiving was a little lonely too but today i am alright with that! because i just had my surgery too, my mom and step-dad flew up to be with me this week instead of the usual all of the kids flying or driving home to meet at their house. but i couldn't sit with them at dinner-- it would have been too hard! while they ate a delicious thanksgiving feast at the hotel they are staying at, i went to my apartment and watched the john and kate plus 8 marathon on TLC. i watched it for like.... 5 hours! but they are soooooo cute, so i didn't really mind. after they finished eating they brought me up a taste of mashed potatoes that i can handle, but i definitely got VERY full off of that. mostly i just stuck to my Protein supplement all day.

i don't think i lost any weight, but i DEFINITELY didn't gain any! next year will be better... and even if i don't eat that much at least i will be thinner!:w00t:

I'm very thankful that most of you had a great turkey day. It was my first big holiday with my band and It just didnt go like I thought it would. I loaded up a very small amout of turkey, stuffing and pot. salad on my plate. I decided to try the turkey first. NOT GOOD! The turkey was very moist but i still couldnt handle eatting it. I took two bites and knew If i continued I would slimme. I stop for about 30 minutes and had a little dressing and mac & chez. I must say it wasnt that bad not eatting as much. The cravings werent as bad as I thought they would be.

It was so cool to have my family notice to big change in my body. All i heard all day was how nice I looked. I see my wifes family today and i hopefully they will notice the changes also. I wouldnt of thought that having people notice my weight loss and body change would give me such an high, even better than food did. It just made me want to work even harder to get the rest of this fat off. I wore a old pair of pants and shirt that i bought and found out later i couldnt fit them. The pants where almost too big and the shirt was just right. That was soooo cool i almost cried. I just kept looking in the mirror all day long. So i hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy your view.

I don't really have any restriction. I put off my 3rd fill until tomorrow morning, so yesterday and today was good by to solid food for a couple of days.

I personally dont think its so bad for me if I dont get crazy with the bad stuff like bread and pie and cranberry sauce, the sugary stuff. I ate more than I should have, but tomorrow its back to a day of liquids, oh no.

I refuse to beat myself up, I think eating extra is ok once in a while as long as you dont do it all the time.

Sounds like most of you did really well! I was shocked when I weighed myself and had lost another pound despite the holiday. I start working out more this week as I'm 6 weeks out and I'm hoping the pounds will start coming off a little faster!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
