Anyone getting banded in January

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 8th. It's been 5 days and it is just now getting better. The trapped air is finally gone. I have not been able to eat (drink) more than a few tiny sips of Water or Soup at a time. Not sure that this is normal. For the last five days I haven't taken in more than 200-300 calories. It makes it hard to be energetic. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am going to see a Dietician tomorrow. I have also bee very thirsty with a dry mouth probably due to dehydration. It is very hard to resist the temptation to guzzle down ice water. I think that would be bad. I haven't made up my mind yet about this being the best thing for me. I know it has only been five days but from what I have read in this forum, I have not read about any of these post-op problems. I would appresciate any advice or other experiences.

Maureen,

hang in there girl! I think I would call your doctor about not being able to sip or drink very much. I am on the Clear Liquids diet for 2 weeks (I'm on day 6 now) and I have no problem drinking anything. Here's what I have been doing to try and keep my energy levels up. First and foremost, ANY time my tummy starts growling, I drink the liquids that have been okayed by doc: broth, soup base (I've been straining chicken & noodle soup and drinking the broth - I've found it to be much tastier and satisfying than Swanson's chicken broth), sugar free Jello, coffee/tea (I'm limiting my coffee to one cup a day because of acid), sugar free popsicles and apple or cranapple juice. I want to stress that I drink any of these whenever my stomach growwwlls!! :cursing: So far it has been keeping my energy levels up.

You definitely need to call your doctor about not being able to take more than a few sips at a time. I don't think that's normal.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing. You'll get through this!:cursing:

Hi to all the New Year Hotties! I originally got approval in June, 2008 from my insurance company, but I was very ill from kidney failure in July, Aug. and Sept. Finally got over my illness and got clearance from my kidney doctor to have the surgery and had to get re-approved by the insurance company. That finally happened and my surgery is scheduled for January 27! I start my pre-surgery diet tomorrow and I'm very happy to finally proceed. What I'm looking forward to is never having to lose 100 pounds again. I was successful once before many years ago, but the weight came back after major back surgery when I couldn't exercise as much as before. My surgeon is Mark Smolik in Des Moines,IA.

Thanks Sandy!

I am taking your advice and am now drinking Cranberry juice (diluted with water). I was able to eat a 1/4 cup of real cream of chicken Soup for dinner and Breakfast this morning and I do feel better. The silver linning about all of this is I have lost 22 pound since the pre-op diet until this morning. I guess I should just be patient. I haven't even begun to use the band the way it was designed to work! Again, I appreciate you response. I live in Germany and I think some of the confusion in my follow up diet is due to a language/culture difference.

I'm to be at the hospital at 6am.

Did you guys have to shower with that special Hibiclens (sp?) soap? That is some strong stuff.

Anyway, cheers and liquid loritab to all.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
