I've been reading on this board for about 3 weeks now. I figured that I might as well join so I can get involved in the great conversations that are going on.

I have struggled with my weight since I was very young. First diet pills were prescribed at the age of 7. So you can say I have dieted my way to where I am now.

I decided to have the lap band surgery after doing a lot of research on it. I started dealing with my insurance company and they gave me a long list of hoops to jump through and told me to plan on being denied at least twice before I would be approved.

I wasn't going to wait that long. I already have complications beginning and I'm weighing in at about 425 right now.

Soooooo, I decided to get the funds and self pay. I have a surgery date of January 20th. I can hardly wait to begin this journey. My liquid pre-op diet starts on December 20th.

My goal weight is somewhere around 150. I am not going to worry too much about that final goal weight. I have a long way to go.

I just turned 40, I'm married to a OTR trucker and we live in Missouri.

I'm glad to be here and look forward to getting to know many of you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
