I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Tabithan, looking at your bmi ticker makes me realize that you are almost out of the obese range. What an awesome day will that be. This morning I realized that with the bmi I have today, my insurance company would have DENIED my surgery because I wouldn't have qualified! I am sooooo ecstatic. I am only 5 lbs heavier than you are, but you are taller than I am.

You continue to be a positive influence on those on this forum. You're an awesome cheerleader for us all!

Aw - thanks for the compliment!!! It feels good to support others as they try and accomplish their goals, in as much as I need everyone to support me in accomplishing mine.

When you said the BMI issue - I went and checked!! You are right - I am 3 BMI points away from being overweight!! WOW - how great that will feel!!!!!!!!!!!

You are doing excellent as well! 3lbs into the Valentine's day weight loss challenge. Way to go!!! Let's keep on keeping on!

After reading many of the posts on this site, I have decided my first step to to record everything I eat (which will not be much until I can get past the pecan pie),so that I at least know whare to start. Maybe if I post my food intake someone might have some advice for me?!

Hi JBREAL - How are you doing on your goal to write everything down? Are you using pen and paper or online? I use fitday.com online.

Yes, Yes, Yes I made it thru a whole day without cheating on the pouch test. If it wasn't for the support of you all I would never have made it. One day down 4 more to go.

My band is crazy!!!!!!!!! When I am at home by myself, I have great restriction. Can eat 3/4 to 1.5 cups a meal, depending on what I am eating. But everytime I am around people, I LOSE restriction. This happened when i took my team to a lunch and movie (I managed to down a philly cheesesteak and a basket of fries - which left me starving) at Christmas and the days following when restriction was an unheard of term. I come back home from the celebrations and BAM - my restriction is back. New years - two days of super indulgence. Yesterday all day - I am doing GREAT then I go for a housewarming party and BAM - i eat like I have not eaten in the last two years!!!! Today - restriction back full force.

I actually am getting to the point that I think it is a LITTLE Humourous!!!! Just thought I would put it out there to see if anyone else has quirky band stories!!!

Hey everyone! Well I promised on Friday that I'd officially start my goals on Monday - and dangit - Monday is here! I usually get by with the motto "why do today what you can put off until tomorrow", but I refuse to keep waiting for tomorrow's weight loss. I started back to solid foods this weekend and I still have absolutely NO restriction. It makes me furious when I think about the $20K that I've spent, but I've decided to train myself to a new way of thinking. I'm going to quit waiting on the band to start working and begin working this thing myself! I have no more excuses - I hold myself accountable - not the band. I pray that as I re-start my journey, I'll eventually get restriction with fills every two weeks.

My goals this week:

1 - sign up for fitday.com and start logging EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. (I counted the calories in my protien shake this morning and didn't realize it has 400 calories...yikes!) Try to stay between 1200 and 1500 calories each day.

2 - drink 1 liter of Water each day. I know this isn't much, but it's more than my usual and I'm going to take baby steps.

3 - excersize three times this week (my kids bought me the Biggest Loser Boot Camp workout DVD for my birthday yesterday).

4 - Don't drink any liquids with high calories - stick to crystal lite and un-sweet tea (I'm bad about gatorade and sweet tea).

I've got many more goals that I need to work on (such as not drinking with meals), but I don't want to get overwhelmed the first week - so I'll start with these.

THERE - now I've said it out loud - I HAVE TO DO THIS!!!

Good luck everyone!

EBox, isn't it amazing what we find out when we pay attention to the calorie content of the things we put into our mouths. 400 is HIGH for a Protein shake. If you REALLY like, keep drinking it, otherwise, I would find a better way to spend my 400 calories. Honestly, many mornings I eat a Chick-fil-A chicken biscuit for 440 calories and it keeps me full for 4-5 hours and has 30g of Protein. Also, the Starbucks that I drink (I reduce the mocha pumps to 2 and add sugar free caramel to a non-fat venti mocha) has only 220 calories and 17g of protein. It is very yummy and keeps me satisfied for 2-3 hours. I drink it instead of eating many evenings.

Fitday is the reason I have been able to keep losing weight. Everything gets logged, and it still amazes me when I think about the amount of calories I must have been consuming prior to surgery. I didn't eat more than most people in my life, but still it was much more than I should have been eating. Dang.

You are on the right track. Keep up the good work and congratulations on starting over today.

OMG Tabithan, I thought I was a freak. I made a super prime rib dinner for xmas and was unable to eat a bite. Every time I tried to eat some it would cause me to PB, so I finally quit trying. I had the same thing happen on New Years day also. It also happens when we make special plans for dinner out. I so glad to find out I'm not the only one.. Also just a update on my pouch test, as of this morning I'm down 2 lbs. The scale is finally moving, YEA.

Good job G-Ma. There is soooo much I can't eat right now. I wish it were just at certain places. I think I may be at what ppl call the "sweet spot", but I don't like it. I would rather be able to eat a little more and a better variety.

Hi Everyone,

Today was a very interesting day for me. I overcooked my oatmeal at Breakfast so could only eat about half a packet. Then, it was one of my team-member's birthday and we took her to lunch. She chose mexican - of course, chips AND SALSA IS MY WEAKNESS and they have the BEST!!!!

I ate about 10 tortilla chips (feeling guilty) but I managed to order their grilled skirt steak and substitute the rice and refried Beans for salad. I ate the ENTIRE 8oz of skirt steak because as I said before, i somehow lose my restriction when I am eating in public with others. LOL. Overall though, I did well because i previously would not have been able eat just 10 chips - feeling proud!!!

It is REALLY cold here in houston so I had some 60 calorie hot chocolate. I'm kinda really full so I wish i hadnt drunk it.

Calculated my calories at fitday so far and I am at around 765 which is HIGH for this time of day (dinner tends to be my largest meal.) I think I will have a frozen dinner because that way i can control the calories i take in today.

Anyway, despite eating out, it was a good day today!!! How was your day, fellow strugglers???

I hear your crzytchr - I decided that i want to ENJOY my meals so I do not want to be restricted anymore unless I stop losing. For me, the quantity I eat doesnt mean as much so long as the lbs keep decreasing. What are some of the foods you cant eat? Of course as you continue to lose weight, generally your band loosens more.

At 3/4 - 1.5 cups depending on time of day or what I am eating, I feel that I have the perfect restriction. Some people need or want more restriction than I have. So it is all a personal decision.

how many cups can you eat in a sitting?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
