I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Recommended Posts

Lurker MIA reporting in....

First off, love this thread and thanks for keeping check on me Tabithan! It is nice to have the personal support and accountability! I NEED to be pulled in out of the shadows and get on here daily and post my failures and victories too...

I have been walking but did not over the weekend, not made it back to curves yet, hope to do that today and have my monthly weigh in and measure to see where I am going from here....hopefully down on the scales and up on the self confiedence.

I am confessing, this time of year I tend to slip a lot :blushing: and eat the band cheater foods (slider foods that go down WAY too easy like chocolates and pies, icecreams, etc) and with lots of parties, etc to attend, hard to say no. I think I will follow

Tabithan's advice about on those particular days to "save" more calories for the time I will need them, that is an awesome idea and trick they told us to use when I used to go to wt watcher meetings too.

Does anyone here follow their plan for accountability at weekly weigh ins? i need to go back just for that and the uplifting meetings, but can't afford that and curves membership so need the stick with the curves gym and get my butt moving there and use THIS forum for my support!

You all are awesome and I am so thrilled you all are here and we can "fess up" without being beat up with harsh words.

You all sound like you are doing very well in your goals too.

My goals for today:

  • Drink at least 80 oz Water
  • Exercise at least 30 minutes at Curves and walk on the treadmill at home or walk the dog outside for 20-30 minutes.
  • Track every bite that goes in my mouth (The Good, The Bad and the Ugly) on fitday (that place is Flippin amazing and that it is free) Love that you can add your own customize foods to the list.
  • Track here on this thread or just sit and read here when tempted to eat tonight when the food demons strike! Got me some 100-calorie mini bag popcorn for that time and will eat it s l o w l y to make it last.

Good luck to us all!

Hi everyone,

I have an update - On friday last week I felt some sharp pain on the new location of my port (my port was revised and moved about 3 weeks ago.) I felt two sharp edges that occassionally irritated my skin. I went to the doctor today and guess what?? the sutures he used to tie my port to the skin somehow came loose and are pressing against my stomach, hence the pain. I have to go back into the hospital Friday(assuming on-time insurance approval) so he can cut off the sutures (which he explained are like a fishline.) Wish me luck!!

But you know what?? despite these MINOR challenges, I am SO GLAD about the fact that I have the band. it has taken me almost two years to lose 54 lbs (mainly because I failed my band) but the weight didnt come back - this would have been an IMPOSSIBLE FEAT without the band.

From a goals perspective, today has been good. So far, I am within my calorie goal, I worked out, and I have written down everything I am eating. Need to do better on the Water.

How did you all do today???

Hey Tabithan, sorry to hear of you having troubles with the sutures, hopefully they will get you in on Friday and get that all squared away for you.... You are an inspiration to us all and I wish you very well.

I agree, I need to get more Water in today.... Off now to chart my lunch on fitday.

Keep us posted on your suture procedure on Friday.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!! I really appreciate it!! :mad2:

I have GOT to work on the Midnight snacking!!! *arrgh* - I can be stuffed at dinner but at around 10:00PM - I have a STRONG CRAVING to eat in order to fall asleep.

Midnight Snacking Goal:

- Eat no later than 9:30PM

- Eat 70 calories activia yogurt as my midnight snack or other low calorie option.

Once I can master the above, I will then push it down to 9:00PM, then 8:30PM, etc. Small goals.

Let's see how I do tonight!!!!!!!!!

have to go for Tae Kwondo today and because it is so cold outside, I already dont feel like going. I need to start psyching myself up to go!! I must go!!!! :blushing:

I know, I agree, it is so cold out today here, I am so spoiled getting to work from home, I don't want to get out and make me go to CURVES gym but I am going, I AM GOING, I AM GOING!!!!

Good luck on the snacking situation, I have the same food demons that attack that same time of day for me too!

Hi IBBanded - Awesome - looks like you are on track. I love the goals and I love the tracking food and finding solutions for tempting situations.

For snacking alternatives, I have found that black tea with milk and splenda helps crave some of the urges - REALLY - I put a cup of organic non-fat milk (90 cals, 0 fat), I then put one or two black tea bags, and a little Water and put in microwave for two minutes. When done, I add 3 splenda - this is SOOOO DELICIOUS, you will want to cry. :blushing: By the time you are done with this hot snack, your cravings - GONE!!!!

I'm so glad you are excercising - Keep at it - when I dont feel like excercising, like today, I come to LBT and somehow I get the movitation. Also, I got an excercise ticker (as it shows below) that keeps me accountable. It feels good to add a day of working out on the ticker and see my progress towards the goal I set.

As for the weekly weigh in - I dont do it at weight watchers but that is a GREAT IDEA. I weight myself officially every sunday and record it on my ticker below, as well. I also record my activity on fitday because it does the calorie exchange calculation for you - LOVE IT.

For some strange reasons, the tickers have motivated me - and when I gained weight - I went back to my ticker and ADDED the weight - I hated doing that, but it kept me accountable - on a weekly basis.

Let us know how you are doing on your goals. I am really excited to see where we will all be in 6 months!!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that! You have a great attitude about it though. And good job getting to the gym today!

I'm struggling today. It's just a generally bad day and taking care of my diet and good habits it the first thing to go. I don't want to exercise and have been putting it off all day long. I'm going to go down and get on the treadmill right now and get it over with.

Wishing you all sweet dreams.

Hi Kathy,

I'm sorry to hear that yesterday was a challenging day - but I cant wait for you to put 7/23 on all your goals!!! that would be PERFECT

Did you manage to get on the treadmill??? :blushing: What exactly were you struggling with from a food perspective??

Hi Crzytchr!!! How are you doing???? :sneaky: I know you are not one of the strugglers but I love reading your posts. Always so insightful. Thanks for visiting us regularly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I visit because I greatly admire y'all. Staying positive is not always easy, but everyone is doing a great job! Keep up the good work.

Tabitha, good luck on Friday. I will be going on Monday for a hysterectomy. It is kind of a rush thing. This will keep me out of the gym for 6 weeks or so. Hopefully I will be able to continue to lose, but it probably won't happen.:tongue2: Does anyone know if getting an unfill is supposed to be necessary? I called my band surgeon, but haven't gotten a call back yet.

Hi Crazytchr, thanks for the good wishes! I got the insurance approval today. Good luck on your surgery Monday - let us know how it goes - we will send you warm wishes and thoughts.

I'm not sure about an unfill - that is a great question - let us know what your surgeon says. Anyone else know????????????????

I'm sure you wont gain so long as you keep your calorie intake in check - they do say that weight loss is 80% diet and only 20% excercise. I would definitely keep in mind the inactivity when determining how many calories to take in, daily. Probably hover around your minimum rather than maximum.

Good luck on the surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi checking in....went to curves last night, got my 30 minutes in there and 10 minutes on the treadmill. Tracked all my food on Fitday, went over a little more than I should have on the carbs, will try to do better today....take it day by day huh?

I have those recent pics printed out and sitting here looking at me to help remind me WHY I need to keep on keeping on! Compared them to pics from 2 years ago BEFORE I gained the 30 pounds back and just makes me more determined!

See ya! Good luck to everyone! Keep up the good work.

Crzytchr - Good luck on your surgery on Monday. I have no idea about an unfill for surgery but I really don't see why they would need you to? To me that would be taking steps backwards! ARGH! I will pray you won't have to have an unfill and that you don't gain and most of all that your surgery goes well. Keep us posted.

Whooooooooo whooooooooooooooop!! That's awesome IBBAnded - Going to carves and all - Very very nice. You are motivating me to get off my behind and go for Tae Kwondo today.

Personally I dont count my carbs, just my calories - I try and eat a good combo of all food groups - I can eat about 1.5-2 cups a meal, so getting all my necessary Protein in is no problem.

I love the idea of the pics for motivation - I should get some pics and stick em on the fridge today.

So how are you doing on your goals today?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
