Is anyone able to eat sushi? I'm not banded yet but I LOVE sushi and I really don't want that to be taken away but I will give it up if I'm not able to have it.

I had sashimi last Friday. I love sushi also. At first I thought it might be kind of gross to have to chew the hell out of a piece of raw fish (it kind of was) but it was good.

I ordered sashimi instead of a roll because I thought I could do without the rice but my lunch came with a side of rice anyway. I never eat rice but I wanted to feel full again so I took my leftover soy/wasabi mixture, dumped it on the rice and ate almost the whole thing! :cursing:

I dont mind chewing raw fish up but I had some mussels the other day and that WAS gross. i threw the container out, lol.

sushi I can do but not a lot of rice. So what I tend to do is choose the packs that different kids and pull what I can off the rice and eat it. I can eat a california roll or two but the rest of my meal has to be just fish.

i can't help but order spicy tuna roll every wk - and it takes a long time to go down, but i wait it out because it's my favorite.

4pcs and i'm done, however.

sashimi & quail eggs or edamame are easy enough to eat. i couldn't imagine having to give up sushi - it's a staple for DH and i.

I order 'tuna/salmom/yellowtail tartare'-it's a pile of chopped fish-with some crunchies/mayo/masago roe mixed in...nice and soft but oh so Protein rich.

I still dab with wasabi, soy and tiny bits of ginger...but chew oh so slow! chew chew chew...can get in about 4 ounces perhaps...delish!!

I am also lucky my local sushi joint has 1/2 priced sushi at lunch-I also order spicy tuna sashimi...

For a couple of months I could only eat sashimi but now i can have a roll every once in a while. I still feel more comfortable eating the sashimi though. I've never had a problem getting anything down but depending on how tight I am, ones more enjoyable than the other. I don't think you'll have a problem.

I do just fine with sushi except the black seaweed they wrap it in. I do better if it has a spicey sauce over it. It keeps the rice from being so sticky. Funny though.... my band surgeon IS Asian and he had a fit that I still ate sushi. He said it's dangerous, loaded with creepy crawlies, and even he won't eat it. He was raised on it, but won't eat it now..... Made me think twice before I ate the next time.... But DAMN it's good!!!

I had Sushi the other night, with no problem. But then, I am not filled yet. I am getting a first fill on Dec 3rd. I had a Boston roll-it had shrimp and avacado, delish!

Omg, I would cry if I had to give up my sushi...

I was wondering about that the other day. Just figured rice may be difficult to handle, but that's fine, so long as I can enjoy the rest.

I was thinking about how to eat a california roll and I have decided to get a california HAND roll without the rice. Then you would have the soy paper (or seaweed paper) crab meat, cucumber and avocado.

They can make any roll into a HAND roll without the rice.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
