What fills you up for breakfast?

Recommended Posts

I was banded July 17th and have been struggling to lose weight. I seem to be hungry and eat too much. I find that I'm hungry an hour or two after Breakfast so I'm thinking that I need to eat something different. I normally have Cereal, oatmeal or cottage cheese. I'm thinking this is slipping through the band too easily and not keeping me full. Can anyone share their ideas for what they eat for breakfast that keeps them satisfied? Thanks.

Really good wholegrain toast - not supermarket bread, but health food shop organic stone ground stuff. That sits for AGES.

I eat carbs like this over Protein because I find that those foods are what make my band work the right way. They fill me up and sit. If I just ate two eggs, I'd be looking for food in half an hour. But a slice of toast and an apple and I'm good for five hours.

I was banded in March- still can't eat breakfast much. When I can eat breakfast after 10 am it is oats, or an egg. Usually I just stick to my Protein Drink -still to tight in the am.

I think I'll try some Ezekial bread and a fruit. I think the bread is high in Protein which will be good since I'm always worried about getting enough in.

i love ezekial wraps for sandwiches, the bread is extra hearty.

i too need a bit of carbs in the morning - i don't have a set breakfast, i usually eat what i'm in the mood for...which includes some mixture of carbs/dairy/protein. this AM i'm having a glass of skim milk w/slice of toast with half banana & Peanut Butter. that holds me well into lunch time.

I hope I can tolerate bread! I just started mushies, so in about 3 weeks I'll have to try a piece of toasted hearty bread in the morning. I've been doing Protein Shakes for breakfast and now that my swelling has gone down, the stuff goes right through me and I'm hungry within 2 hours - which sucks. I hate being hungry. Lucky for me, at the office if I get hungry I can busy myself with something else and sort of forget that I'm hungry for awhile. But on the weekends this doesn't work, and last weekend I found myself grazing on various full liquids all day (I'm only 2 weeks post-op) and by the end of the day I felt like I'd consumed close to 2000 calories! I probably didn't, but I sure felt like a whale. I'm anxiously awaiting my first fill on Dec 5th!

I'm not in the mood for sweet stuff much in the morning so I've been having a boiled egg and/or a Morning Star breakfast patty (it' fake sausage). Works for me but by lunch time I am for sure hungry. I haven't been snacking inbetween meals.

Eggbeater omelet with lean meat, cheese and veggies. All that Protein fills me up and keeps me full.

Oatmeal and cottage cheese keeps me full until lunchtime. I like the Quaker Weight Control instant oatmeal. It's high in Protein. It will keep me going most of the day. eggs tend to stick so they do keep me full for a while as well. I do eat toast, but not regularly. When I do eat it, I have it with the simply fruit spread.

Boy do I wish I had time to cook that kinda Breakfast in the morning!

It only takes 5 minutes. Veggies and meat are already chopped, just saute them a minute, pour on the eggbeters and add cheese...not real difficult. I avoid processed and packaged foods so I make time to prepare all my meals.

I love oatmeal but it just doesn't stick with me very long.

I start my day with a glass of orange juice - I cant stand the thought of food too early in the morning i have always been like that not just since being banded. I will then have an apple and some Peanut Butter around 10am and it holds me over just fine until lunch around 130pm

I like a hot drink-- lately it has been hot cocoa (made with milk) or a Protein Shake. If no Protein shake then I try to eat something-- I like cold cereal actually esp. stuff like Kashi cocoa beach or kix. Or I might nibble on a benefiber bar. Protein and Fiber are good to get in the morning, I find.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
