New to the 60's group

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am scheduled for surgery on November 21!!! I have hesitated to say anything in case it got delayed somehow.

I decided to join this group because there does not seem to be any "traffic" on the 70's forum and this seems to be very active. :(. I started my pre-op diet on Thursday, 1 day early - - it is a liquid diet. So far, so good. I have learned a lot from this website and so glad I found it.

I am scheduled for surgery today. I couldn't sleep so I got up early. It hardly seems possible all the tests are done, the preop diet, the doc visits...the big day is here. I will be 60 on the 16th. I am from sw Pa.

Hi There, I would be happy to talk with you, while you await your surgery. I had surgery 2 1/2 years ago & have lost over 100 lbs. I am at goal & feeling good (although somewhat fatigued at times). I was 64 having my surgery & I'll be 67 in Feb.

Keep in contact if you want to talk.

I wondered how did your surgery go? Mine went good except I had the gas pains in my lt shoulder and neck. Are you losing weight very fast? I get alittle hungrier now than I did at first. I go to the doc tommorrow.

I was banded on 11/21 and everything went great. I am home from my daughters (she felt that I needed some extra care and I was happy to oblige lol). I feel wonderful I am starting to have some hunger pangs-probably just head hunger- need something to chew on. Saw the doc yesterday and tried to get him to let me advance my diet --huh!! don't think so. I get to start mushies on 12/12. Will see the doc again on Jan. 12 for a fill.

Hope everyone is doing as well as I am.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
