I had surgery on Oct. 27th and this is my first post! I have run into several of the same issues as others (i.e. pain in my chest, soreness around the port, etc.) But I am also having pain in my left side along my lower rib cage. It's about 6 inches away from the port and gets worse as the day goes on... has anybody else run into this?

Also, anything fills me up - including liquids. I had some Soup for lunch and I feel like I'm going to pop! I guess I need to learn when to stop???

Thanks, everybody!

I was banded on 10/29 and except for soreness there's not any real pain I can complain about. I do seem to get full at 1/2 cup and you're right about learning when to stop. If I overeat, I suffer for it. When I start to belch or cough - I know I'm done. Hope you do well!

I keep getting, like a stitch or runners cramp on my LEFT SIDE. Its really strange it comes and goes, some days its not there and other days I have to hold my side when I go for a walk with my dogs, i've had it since surgery and i've asked my doctor and they said everything seems fine. I also wish someone could give me some insight to what it could be. PS I was banded 3rd Sept

I had my lap band surgery in January and I continue to have pain on my left side, just below my rib cage. I have discussed with both by bariatric surgeon and my personal care physician. Both have said it could be Constipation, but I don't see how it could be. It seems to get worse with exercise. I would love some advice about what it could be.

I had been suffering with what I swore was left kidney pain which started immediately after surgery. I was sure the doctor had nicked my kidney. Well, I had an X-ray and a CT of my abdomen and pelvis and all was okay. My PCP thinks the pain could be from the position I was in lying on the operating room table. At any rate, it's not my kidney, there are no instruments left inside me, and finally the pain is rearing its head less and less often now. Finally!

I had that too and my surgeon said that it was either a pulled muscle kind of thing from being stretched out during surgery or just some gas...I took a few Gas X strips and things felt better  Good luck

I was banded in Jan 08 and have some pain form time to time on the left side. Sometimes it worsens with exercize. I have found that if I drink Water, it goes away most of the time. I just wonder if it is some kind of cramping that may be associated with dehydration? Maybe gas, I don't know. It has never been a constant pain. It feels different from the gas pain I get on my lower right side. I would tend to say more like a cramping pain. Just my feelings.

I was banded on Oct. 27th, and yesterday was my first day back to work. I am having muscle cramps around my port area. I wonder why? I haven't been cleared to exercise yet, but I have been walking. Maybe it goes away with time.

I was banded on Oct 29th and still feel soreness around the port, but, I can tell it's getting better. Still swollen and bruised. I started walking on the 30th and that seems to help alon. I went back to work on Oct 31st. Everyone's different, I guess.

I was banded on the 25th, and I am very sore around the port. Yesterday, while I was walking, I started to feel some pain on the right side below the scar. My doctor told me it was all internal bruising and it needed time to heal. So, I am not really worry about it...I am sure it will eventually go away. Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
