Hi to all,

I got my lapband June 3d. I was the first one to have this type of surgery in Bathurst. It took more time than I expected. I was in the op. room at 8h00 and I was in my room at 11h30. Everything when well. There was 2 other ladies after me, one from LeGoulet near Shippagan and the last one from Fredericton. I had lost close to 20 pounds with the Boost diabectic for 15 days. Right now I have a liquid diet (jus, broth, V-8, Soup (cream), Gatorade, Instant Breakfast, ...) for 11 days now. Then what I call "The blender diet" until July 14th. I feel very well even if it's stiff. I sleep at lot and I'm fine with it. He gave me a month of but I'll go back before school finishes. I don't regret anything. I have 5 little holes on my left side. For the ones who are waiting, as soon as you lose weight, the better is for you. After 15 days on Boost, I don't want any, I got my share of it hi! hi!

Hi Nancy,

My new life just begun. I'm glad I lost those pounds. I'm not really hungry. Right now I have to take something every 2 hours but sometimes I forget so it's not too bad. The only problem sometime is between my 2 ears when my brain think of chips for example, I have to stop the idea an what it may taste but I think we're going to have to do that for the rest of our life. We really have to choose healthy food and not junk food. Today, it was chocolat. But now I have the lapband to help me not to eat what I'm not suppose to and also I hate to vomit so much that it stops me.

It's all worth it!!!!

Hi clempier

I am glad to ear that you are not ungry. You said 'We need to choose good food and it for life' you are so so right, but i beleive the Lap Band will give us the little help we need to make it more simple. Myself I started to walk and exercise and try to eat better. I started to drink 1 or 2 boots per weeks to get use to the taste and prepare myself mentaly. I try to get 30 min of exercise 3 days per week for the after surgery. It will be a challenge, but getting good news from you today will just encourage me to continue and to get ready for my new life that will be starting in not too too long ...hopefully.

Keep us up to date

Nancy

Hi to all,

Five days after my surgery I started to walk a bit more. I went to the grocery store. Let me tell you I was glad to be back home. I can't say it hurts but it's stiff and when I go from side to side when I sleep it feels as if my organs were trying to find there initial place. They gave me pain killer pills. I use them when I go to bed. The only inconvenent is the burping. I'm not use to that.

Keep your hope high, it's coming for you too. I'm still convince I did the right thing by having the lap band.

Clempier, I had my lapband in Montreal, August 26, 08. I lost 60 pds so far. I too love my band.

I was wondering, when you see Dr Savoie. could you ask him if he does refill? I need to go in MTL each time (3X) so far. I am due for july 10. I wish I could have it done in NB. Dr Beausoleil is a God here who is way too busy to touch someone like me (selfpaid + having it done in MTL).

Just let me know through this blog if he can. I am all alone here in south of NB but I realy enjoy read all these messages across Canada and USA.

Glad that you are doing good ::grouphug:

I went today to visit my Dr. to get a referral for Dr Savoie, I can't wait I am so excited about my decision. I log on to this site everyday waiting to see what Clempier's updates are. You must be so happy and excited. Keep us posted while we are so patiently waiting!! The receptionist told me that he was not seeing any new referrals until Fall?? And was just doing surguries of patients he had seen last fall, Is this true? Was anyone told the same thing? I also had a referral to Dr Beausoliel at the GDH but his wait time is 6 and half years!!! Is that not crazy!!! Has any one had a consult with Dr Savoie lately??

Hi Suzanne,

I'm suppose to see Dr. Savoie July 20th and sure I'll ask him. So, how's life with a band? Let say, right now I'm on the liquid diet for one more week and then it's what I call "The Blender Diet". Do you do a lot of exercice? What is your weight lost in average?

My Mom and Dad lives in Saint John so we went to Hampton a couple of times. Nice place, if I'm not mistaken, the last time I was there was for a big yard sale.

Hi happygirl9,

I'm feeling very well. It's been a week today since my LBS. I don't regret it at all. I was the first one to have it in Bathurst and two other ladies followed me. I was in the op. room more than they expected but I think Dr. Savoie wanted to make sure everything was fine. Dr. Khan my specialist told me how precise he was in his work and I beleive it. I stayed one night and then came back home in the morning. I have 5 incisions, one larger than the other ones. It's where the port is. It's stiff but it doesn't hurt. The main thing about that surgery is to be really ready psychologicaly. It's a life changing process. We would like to implant a support group for before and after surgery. I think it's essential for a good result. I know the clinic is talking about it. Right now, the only difference is I can't drink coffee or tea, I don't like the taste anymore. I also purp and have gas but it's normal and it's going to subside after I'll start eating normaly (shewing my food). You also have to have the support of your family and your friends and even your co-worker. Some even went on SlimFast and Boost just to support me. They call me to see how I am and they visit me too. I consider myself bless by all that and I have a peace in my heart that I did the right thing.

Hi

When you first got your referral from the family Dr... who looked after applying to medicare or how do you go about the cost?? Is it the family Dr that contacts medicare or Dr Savoie? Or myself?

Hi Happygirl9,

Your Dr. or if you have a specialist (mine is Dr. Khan because I'm diabetic) did the refferal and everything. I didn't have to do anything. That's how it is here in NB. If you have a sickness, sleep apnea the surgery doesn't cost you a penny. Before, just a specialist could make a refferal but now your family Dr. can. Good Luck

Hi Happygirl9,

With what you told me, I would think you have a big chance that it can be covered. I wish I could tell you for sure. Right now he is doing the patients he saw last October. The last I've heard he can't do the other surgeries just the lapband ones so if you substract the ones who came to see him and who are not waiting for LBS, it's less patient in front of you. Maybe, since you're a nurse and you probably know your Dr., the one who's goiong to do your refferral, if he add something like "to do as soon as possible". Never know, maybe your Dr. can be your best allie. Last evening I ate too much and I didn't feel well. I won't do it again, learn my lesson. I'm going to pray for you that all the doors open for you.

Hi all,

I seen Dr. Savoie on the 8 of June. My surgery date is on August 5th 2009. I'm a little nervous but I think that's normal.... Can't wait.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
