Hello, I was banded on 10/29/2008 and I am miserable from the gas. I feel like a small child is sitting on my belly! My bowel sounds are sooooo loud I doubt I could go anywhere and someone not comment on them LOL. I have tried gas-x strips. I have diarrhea horrible which gives me some relief. Every once in a while I feel a huge air bubble which makes me feel like I have to burp...but I can't advance it out to burp. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? When will this gas get out???? I am walking around the house over and over. I need to go to a meeting tonight at my daughter's school but I am afraid because of the diarrhea and growling of my stomach....my husband can hear it from the other room!!!

Also, I know I am not supposed to weigh myself...but of course I did....and I was down 5-1/2 pounds before I had the surgery...and now I am UP 6-1/2 pounds~!!! I know it is gas and swelling...but when did you all see it go away?

I also had really, really bad gas pains. The only thing my Doc told me to do was walk and lots of Water. Mine did finally subside a bit by day 4 - but then again everyone is different. I'm going to say KEEP WALKING - it does help.

Wvagal, I am having the same thing with my stomach growling super loud. Last nite I was at my daughters house and it did it and everybody thought it was thunder. So that tells you how loud it is. My diarrea is better but that is because my doctor prescribed medication for it. So hand in there, each day will get better. Maggies:shades_smile:

Walk,Walk,Walk,Walk and Walk more! The diarrhea is normal. I had several unexpected sudden explosive diarrheas, which was no picnic. You should start to feel better in a few days. Good luck, it does get better.

the reason for the diarreah is because what goes in liquid comes out liquid. that is the only reason. As for the burping it took me a good week in order to burp, at first i felt like i always had to and this strong pain and i couldn't. But now...it all flows accordingly. I couldn't even yawn either, but we are good know. You will improve 400% each day, at least i did. I was never in pain, just tightness...ok pain when sitting and getting up from a down position...but it was just like i over exerted my abs that is all. I have a whole bunch of drugs, but never took any......The gas, once it comes out you will feel SSSOOOOO much better!! I wish you a fast recovery, i am still in shock on how much better i got day to day! ( banded 10/17)

I was also banded on 10/29. I have had severe gas pains. I have not had any problems with burping though. I have not had any diarrhea, mine has been the opposite. I have been constipated. But like everyone says, it gets better each day. Hang in there

Me Too!!!! I can't burp- I try but nothing and it hurts in my chest! I have been feeling a little better each day. If I don't take my time standing and sitting it burns- the first few days people helped me to get up and down. Thanks for posting this!:rolleyes2:

My surgery was on the 28th. Each day gets better. I had a problem with Constipation which cleared up today. Gas pain in shoulder is almost gone. Tenderness in abdomin only hurts when I laugh:laugh:, cough or try to raise straight up from bed. Today was the first day I was really able to burp.

The toughest part is the seven days of Clear liquids - sugarfree with less then 3 gms of carbs - that leaves so little to choose from since Protein drinks are prohibited until the next phase - had a hernia repair during the banding.

Needless to say I have had no strength to speak of and couldn't sleep last night from the feeling of hunger. I moved to creamed Soup (a day and a half early)as of this evening and feel so much better. Good luck to you on your weightloss journey!

Don't know why but the doctor handed out his phase 1 list to myself and my room mate at the same time - we both had repaired hernias - and said to continue for one week. He also talked about and handed out a phase 2 list which did include Protein Drinks. All I can say is that I feel so-o-o much better since adding the dose of Carnation Breakfast/Low Carb and the 6oz serving of creamed potatoe Soup. Will continue my last day of Clear Liquids today but will also add the items consumed yesterday and then go onto a full phase 2 tomorrow.

Hope you're feeling better today.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
