I think I am on my way

Recommended Posts

I am almost 45, 230 pounds BMI is 35.5. I have Thyroid, pcod w/ insulin resistance, very high triglicerides and possible sleep apnea. sleep study is his weekend. My Dr. feels lap band surgery is probably my best option. I am nervous to say the least not onyabout the surery but what it will mean for me. I haven't told many people because I am so embarrassed that even wih al these health risks I still can't manage to control myself enough to loose enough weight to be healthy.

I have 4 childen 21 18, 5 & 1,they still need me. My mother died at 61 of a sudden heart attack. So, am willing to do whatever I need to so that I can be healthier.

I am in VT and have referred, gotten my packet. I need to fill out the paper work ( what are the rght answers?) and track food for 3 days.

Hi. You sound a lot like me. I'm 45, my bmi is 35. My ins approved the lapband since I have mild sleep apnea. They don't seem concerned about my very high triglycerides, but I am. The only person I've told is my husband, who would support me whatever I do. I haven't told my 3 kids ages 16, 13, 10. I am also very nervous about this decision... I've gone back and forth since I first started the process. I wish I had a crystal ball and could see myself 5 years from now, would I be glad I did it? Will i be slimmer, healthier and happier? How much does it change your life? take care,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
