Recommended Books?????

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I'm getting banded on Nov 20th and it seems the questions just keep popping up! I was just on Amazon.com and found tons of books about weight loss with the Band, there were so many to choose from, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations??? Or is it better to keep reading this website, which has already been wonderful by the way, thanks to everyone for sharing your stories! I was also curious about the cookbooks, are they helpful at all or a waste of money? I'm concerned about finding Protein Shakes that I can live on during pre and post op without going nuts! I hate to buy a lot and then not even like them. Thanks for any suggestions!

I've been looking into cookbooks, too. A lot of them have very mixed reviews so I am getting mine through my library or through their interlibrary loan program so I can review them before buying

My nurse recommended a few books: The Emotional First Aid Kit by Cynthia Alexander. Also Our Weight Loss Surgery by Barb Thompson, Before and After by Susan Leach:biggrin:

Believe it or not I found several books in my local library, however, one of the most helpful was Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. I couldn't believe someone actually wrote it but I needed information from A to Z. I must add that you will find information on this site (spend time here searching by keyword of what you want to know by using the "search" option found in the top right of the home page). Make a notebook for yourself to keep notes based on "pre-surgery", "during your stay in the hosptial" and post surgery.....you will be amazed how much information you'll find here. Everyone is very helpful and will offer tips, tricks and otherwise :tongue2: All the best to you.

I read Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Bandy by Robert Sewell M.D. I found it does answer a lot of questions about the entire process of living with the band. Of course, being able to come here for almost immediate answers does help, too.

I ordered The Lapband Companion from Amazon.com. It was a good informational book. It starts at the decision making point and goes to post-op with several success stories.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
