Foaming - Feel Like a Rabbid Dog

Recommended Posts

Help! I had my 4th fill at 2:30 today. I now have 7 1/2 cc's in a 14 cc band a I keep foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog! I assume this isn't the way I'm supposed to be feeling. I have had nothing to eat or drink since the 3 sips I had at my fill. And oh - the chest pain. NOT pretty! My doctor is not back in until Thursday, today is Tuesday. What do I do? Will this get better in time? Any comments are appreciated.

I recently had a fill where when I slept at night the first two night I awoke to be throwing up my spit that would no go down. Drinking liquids and swallowing actually hurt! It took a few days of doing Clear Liquids but the swelling went down and I am getting back to being ok. Mornings are the worst and it does not get better until mid afternoon. I have to be extrememly mindful when I eat. If I eat anything on the fly it gets stuck and I am throwing it back up

I also had my 4th fill today but I'm not having any problems. The nurse did say that if I got too tight then to try hot liquids. She said hot tea is especially helpful.

I'm glad to hear my system may adjust to this. I haven't felt much restriction until now so this is a huge surprise.

I had my 5th fill yesterday which put me at 7cc in a 9cc band. I was awake all night with the foaming thing going on thought I was going to asperate on my own saliva. I have been tempted to get a slight unfill. Should I wait and this will get better or should I be safe?

I may have spoke too soon yesterday. I was way too tight last night to eat so all I could do was have some Soup (like a few swallows). Only hot liquids are giong down easily today. I can get cold liquids down, but it's taking its time (as in I can feel it dripping slowly). I'm going to stick to liquids for now and see how I do over the weekend. If I can still only do liquids then I'm going back to the doc's on Tuesday to get .25 cc out.

I was filled to tight last week. Same things happened to me... Foaming from the mouth, feeling like I was choking on my own saliva and I could only get down hot Water. I tried to tough it out to see if I was just swollen, but after 4 days of very little water and no food/nutrients I knew I was way too tight! .5cc was all it took to give me relief.

The band loosened up. I was able to have Minestrone for lunch and chicken for dinner. No problems.

do you guys have to modify your diet after a fill? when i was in post op group we were told that the day of a fill that we should go back to liquids for that day and the next and then slowly progress back to wherever we were in the plan. day 3 after fill would be mushies and then day 4 back to regular diet.

i guess each doctor gives different info so checking with him/her would be best.

best of luck to all of you!

Foaming at the mouth I've not heard of, but it's fairly common - especially with prolonged sticks - to bring up a foamy substance that IME looks like really thick Shampoo lather. You always want to be able to get liquids down, but a lot of people find that within 1-4 days their fills loosen considerably, even to the point that they no longer feel restriction when 3 days ago they were doing good to get down Water. We dehydrate quickly, so always use doctor's advice/your intuition when it comes to getting in your fluids.

Thanks for everyone's reply/opinion. I called my doctor and they had me go back for an emergency unfill under fluoroscopy. I was so swollen that they had to take me back to only 3 cc's. Before this last fill I was only 6 out of 14, so we thought 1 1/2 would be fine as I'd had little restriction. I'm disappointed now as it will take me awhile to build back up to the 7, but it's what has to be done. I was worried that I'd never hit my sweet spot, but at least I know I can :tongue_smilie:. Thanks again everyone for your words of advice.

That happened to me two weeks ago.

It was terrible!!

I was nauseated, pain in my chest, slimeing, burping and gurgling. I ate and drank nothing for 3 days, because the pain was so bad.

It didn't get better the next day and I had to go have some removed on the third day. Really bad experience!!! Very painful!!!

Doctor told me too much too soon and I would be OK.

Instant relief when he removed the excess. It took a couple of days until my swelling went down. I'll try another fill in November, but only half the amount.

I may get better but you are TOO TIGHT. IT constitutes an emergency- you can cause slippage, dangerous dehydration, and gastric erosion. You need to get a hold of someone first thing in the am and get some of the fill removed. DO NOT WAIT.

I understand your pain. I got a fill last week (the first in 6 weeks) of 1 cc bringing me to 9cc in a 14cc band. Eating has been tough, somedays better than others. Yesterday was awful, everything that went in came right back out. So I ended up not eating anything all day. Today has been easier, was able to keep some Breakfast down, just taking it slow and easy. I don't think I need an unfill yet, but will keep an eye on things and stay aware. Good news is I am down 5 lbs since the last fill a week ago, after not having lost anything in a couple of months.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
