Think Oprah has given up?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed lately that Oprah's weight seems to be climbing. She's not been a big proponent of WLS but maybe she should consider it? She's been struggling with weight for almost all of her entire TV career and it seems no matter how much she loses or what method she utilizes, her weight seems to creep back up again.

Why is it Oprah can have the "world" basically at her fingertips but the fact that she's fat makes it not worth anything? She just proves that we don't have to swallow everything that is shoved down our throats that we need to be a certain size to be successful and happy in life. Kudos to Oprah, she's a real roll model for women!

Oprah struggles just like the rest of us. She has repeatedly admitted that she has a difficult time when it comes to food. Watched her today and she brought the subject up about how overweight she is right now.

She has worked with Bob Greene for years. Around the time of her 50th bday she was so in shape. She's a real person and staying so much on task every day of your life just does not work with most of us and she has proven the same. She has the resources in her life; trainer, chef, etc. and she still struggles. I feel for her as I feel for the rest of us that have struggled.

I feel the same, she struggles like many North American women, and she's got the huge spotlight on her everyday. I can't imagine the stress. I mean she gets paid so I'm not saying poor Oprah, but man, she's done better than I ever did before being banded.

In reality if she's marginally overweight the rest of her life well that's just dandy with me. And if she opted for WLS that would be okay with me too. Really she's the one who has to live in her skin. She's amazing and smart if she's 150, 200, or even 250, she be who she be.

I don't hate her.

In a way I find it validating that someone in such a public role struggles openly with weight. This is someone who as it has been mentioned has all the resources anyone can hope for at their fingertips.

I don't know if she could do WLS. She is still a role model to many. Say she gets it done and her decision tips the scale on 1000 peoples decisions. If one of those people had surgery complications and died in surgery could you imagine the PR... It would basically be "You killed my Mom/Sister/Wife she trusted you"

I am not in the least justifying that thinking. Each person has to own their own decision but how often does that actually happen when it goes wrong?

Just a thought anyhow

Al Roker said he kept his Bypass secret exactly for the reason you stated Minx. It was only after he came through it OK that he wanted to share.

i wish i had a chef ,

i feel bad for oprah - not like she can go hide (like i did) when she gains weight - she's out there. with all the resources she has, just goes to show - weight struggle does not discriminate.

just wish she was a bit more understanding & supportive of those who do choose WLS,.., as open as she is about a range of topics - she's a bit closed off on surgery.

I was closed off to surgery too because I was scared of the bypass and hadn't really heard about the lap band. Once I heard about the lap band, and had a hit the bottom of the barrel moment, that all changed.

And yet people still think we get obese because we are lazy. I don't think you could call Oprah lazy.

I don't know if she could do WLS. She is still a role model to many.

I think that's exactly why she should do it. (Well, besides the fact that it actually works unlike all the things she does over and over.) Imagine how the stigma against WLS would change if someone like Oprah finally saw the light.

I agree with Lulac when she stated that Oprah could be more understanding of the WLS issues. I was sitting at my computer (work from home) with the tv on behind me. Did a big neck crank at the first negative comment. Most of the comments made by her on that show were very close-minded.

She should retire...everyone watches ellen now anyway..

I watch them both! They are two different types of shows. I learn from Oprah and get entertained by Ellen. I love them both!

Oprah's no role mode for health, although she is for other things. She doesnt accept her size. She's been the most public yo yo dieter of all time. She just isnt successful in controlling her weight - that doesnt make her some plus size role model who truly accepts and lives a healthy life at a higher weight. She's as warped in the head as they come over her weight.

If she managed to maintain her weight and her health even if that weight was still technically overweight, then she would be a role model for moderate, healthy living and being beautiful and successful no matter what your size. Yo yoing all over the place doesnt spell that for me.

It drives me nuts that any overweight celeb is automatically a "role model" for health. First being fat isnt healthy. Second, the fact that they're out there looking great (thanks to their zillions of dollars, stylists, make up artist and hair guys) doesnt change the fact that behind closed doors they're as prone as we are to swallowing boxes of laxatives, getting injections of horse urine, going on crackpot diets and running till they fall of their darn treadmill trying desperately to shed the weight. And in the meantime, they can make themselves feel better by filling their faces with botox and their chests with silicone. Oh, and having the right Chanel bag for the week. How is THAT being a role model"?

I feel for Oprah, to have publically espoused that you're anti weight loss surgery and to be as famous as Oprah would mean you cant really go back on your word. Which puts her squarely in the position of a lot of ordinary people, fat without a hope of doing anything about it long term.

I agree Mac, if she publically admitted that she was losing this battle, that she wanted to take responsible steps towards her long term health THEN she would be a role model.

I dont want to read about her latest diet and exercise regime, how this time she's discovered the secret, knowing that in a year, she's going to have regained it yet again. I dont judge her for that, we've all been through it, I'm just saying she's not really a role model for how to deal with obesity.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
