Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Finally took the plunge today and scheduled everything - surgery, flight, etc. Going to Monterey, Mexico on 12/1 for banding on 12/2. Going by myself. Yikes, that's scary! Anyone else do this alone?

Hey Everyone! i just got my date, Dec.18th. They told me that all my pre-tests are in but its in review? did anyone get told the same?

Yes, there was a review by my insurance company that lasted about 2 weeks, then when that was approved my surgeon reviewed everything and 2 days later I got a call to come see him to set a date. Looks like I will be in December for sure. Everything has been going well, I have a great insurance company. I told my boss yesterday and he is very supportive and I have no job worries. Its about time something went easy for me :frown::eek:

Yes....I'm a DECEMBER BANDSTER. My surgery date is 12/30/08. I'm looking forward to it. My doctors name is Dr. Matei, he's at Memorial Healthcare Systems. Very nice doctor. Met with him yesterday. I was measured and weighed. Thank God I wasn't shocked about the scale, I was pretty much where I thought. My biggest fear right now is experiencing errosion or when I get adjustments have too much and won't be able to swallow....That's my biggest fear.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Can't wait!!!! I have a few things to take care of first. I have 2 nutritional classes, 1 pre-op class, tests, and appointment with primary. Other than that, I'm good to go. I already rec'd approval from my work for the dates and they are excited for me.

WOW....Grandmax, I wish you so much luck. My sister is also looking into weight loss surgery in Mexico. She's so worried. She wants to do the sleeve. I'll be helping her look into other places. Do you have any information regarding the facility you are going to in Mexico? Do you know if they do the sleeve?

Anyway, again....Good luck! I'm sorry you're going alone, but I know of a girl who went alone and she did just fine.

Hi! I see this thread was started a couple of months back, but it's still very active!

I just found this website today and joined immediately! My banding is set for November 26th, 2008! 6 days and counting! I am so excited and ready for this to happen!

Congratulations to everyone who has or will be banded! And I look forward to keeping in touch. In just what i've read so far this morning, this site seems to be very supportive, and we, I, will need support for the tough times, and someone who can understand when a milestone is reached during the good times!

Fingers crossed!! Any news yet?? I am still waiting. Had to have Scott and White to re-fax . BC/BS said they never got it.. what a pain. So hoping to hear by the end of the week:tongue2:

No news yet...thanks for asking! I do know that it's in the review process and that I should have an answer by the 26th. I pray each day that God will guide my paperwork through to a quick approval. My surgeon is running out of slots for this year and I am so hopeful to be banded Dec. 16th. How about you? Have you heard yet? Keep me posted!

Great idea to have Christmas a little early!! I am going to be banded Dec 16th. Looking forward to it!! Christmas is certainly my fav. holiday of all time, but being thin is a much bigger priority, so my family is okay with me laying back in a recliner if need be. Hey, you never know...my husband may even cook?! Kim in Colorado

Kim..fantastic news about your band date! I think that having surgery around Christmas is probably the best present I could get this year. I hope it is for you as well! Keep us posted on how it goes. And if you get your hubby to cook you DEFINITELY have to share that secret!

I can relate! I"ve had my date for a few weeks, dec 5. since then I've eaten everything I could get my hands on.

Tomorrow I start the liquid diet for two weeks. I'm scared to death that I'm not going to do it, but everyone I've spoken to has done it. I just need to have the confidence in me. If I can make it thru the first weekend, I think I'll be ok...but 14 days with no food sounds pretty damn scary to me! I can not wait for the surg day to come. dec. 5, here I come!

good luck to you all!

A

Good morning all! I am posting here because I can't scream and dance at work.

biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifI JUST GOT MY APPROVAL!!!!!biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

The call came about half an hour ago. I've been approved and my surgery is scheduled for December 16th!

I have been hoping and praying for weeks for this day. Because of my job, I am pretty restricted by the amount of time I can take off (family business, understaffed, been here forever, small office...you get the drift). December 16th was THE most workable date my surgeon had on the books, as it would allow me to take time off during the relatively slow period before Christmas. I'll be able to wrap work up on the day before surgery and then take off the next 13 days if I need them. I didn't even take that much time off when I gave birth!

The most amazing part is that spots were being filled up so quickly with my surgeon's office (he only does surgery on Tues/Thurs). He has 9 other patients awaiting approval and it was really going to be a longshot that I was able to be approved in time to get the 16th. I made the decision to turn it over to God and let him guide the process. My prayers have been answered! I couldn't be happier.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
