OK question for u guys. I am 6 months post op and have been having some Hair loss. Not major Patches or anything. But everytime I wash my hair or comb my hair there is a noticable amount of hair being lost. I have thin hair to begin with and dont wish to be bald. I get my requirements of Protein a day if not more so I know that is not the problem. I have also had blood work done and it is nothing to do with that. Does anyone have any tricks they know of that can reduce the hair loss that doesnt involve increasing the protein. Oh and I also take 2 Biotin Vitamins a day too ( hair nail and skin vitamin) I know that hair loss can occur after surgery and rapid weight loss... but this SUCKS... would appreciate any thoughts:lol:

I understand the problem!! I am 4 months out and really losing quite a bit every time I brush my hair, or even run my fingers through it. My surgeon said to take Zinc tablets (in addition to making sure I get the Protein intake). He actually has his patients on Zinc from surgery on but I had stopped taking them. I have been back on my Zinc for about 10 days - can't tell yet if it is helping.

Hope we both stop shedding! :tt1:

The only thing I have heard of was to increase your Protein level. But if you say that you are already getting adequate Protein then that's a good question. Let us know if the Zinc someone else mentioned works.

I get lots of protein more than suggested and I also use Pantene Beautiful Lengths Shampoo. The shampoo is supposed to make your hair stronger to grow longer. I am not sure if it helps a lot or not. I do not shed but some of the proceeds of that shampoo goes to cancer patients that don't have any hair. :tt1: Good luck to you in your journey

I asked my dietician and my surgeon if there was anything to help avoid the Hair loss and both of them said no. With rapid weight loss comes hair loss. I have noticed more strands coming out when I brush my hair, but it is not noticeable to others yet.

Mine is falling out too. I asked the doctor about it today and he said it was not normal, but after reading a lot here, I'm not so sure. I am taking Biotin too, and it is not helping.

At my support group last week, the general consensus was that it's caused by the shock to your system after such a dramatic lifestyle change.

I had the exact thing happen to me. The dr. And the dietician said the same thing to do what you are doing. And i am also a hair dresser this is common. I don't know how long your hair is? But i had to cut about six inches off of mine it was so bad. Since i cut it it's coming in thicker. They said it takes about a year to get back to normal. Good luck lori

I have seriously fine, thin hair. I bought a Leimo about a year ago, and it has really made a difference. I lost a bit post surgery, but thank god I had more there to lose, otherwise I would have ended up almost bald. Its now growing back again, and I'm still using the Leimo every night.

Personally, I don't think Protein increase is the answer, but I do think Vitamin B is critical.

The same thing is happeing to me; I started to loose it after I had a baby though. I have tried almost everything but it still falls out.:)

I had my surgery at the end of April and started losing hair about 45 days ago. I asked about it at my last appointment. The nurse said that it happens to "everyone," and that it lasts a month or two and then goes away. She suggested Biotin.

I'm glad my hair started out thick. No one can tell, but I sure can -- and so can my shower drain!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
