Ambra, I had my first post op visit today, and my surgeon said to go back half days Monday because I am so tired. You have a very difficult job, I don't know how you can do that 12 hour shifts. Dorothy

I'm really resting a lot these next few days so I'll be ready for next week. The good thing about 12 hour shifts, only working 3 days per week. I'll let you know how I do. I'm feeling a little better today cuz I've been resting a lot. So hopefullly with resting 3 more days....... wish me luck:blush:

Ambra, You must work with babies do you? That would be a lovely job - but sad too at times I guess. Well it sounds like you have a lot of supportive workmates so that should make it easier. It sounds like you are doing well if you are already 11 pounds down at this early stage. You're on your way!!!

Yes, I work with premies and sick newborns. It is very rewarding, I love it!!!! There are some very sad times, but lots more rewarding times, and it's an honor to be there during some very hard times. I graduated from nursing school 2 years ago and went straight into the NICU. I still consider myself new, and I'm always learning. Right now, there's no where else I'd rather be. I love it!!! I do rotate 6 wks on days and 6 wks on nights, but have a lot of friends on both shifts. Everyone has been concerned with my surgery, so hopefully going back won't be too bad. We'll see.

Socialdot, I have just noticed you and Ambra were done on the same day - banded twins!!! I sympathise with you about knee problems as I had a similar injury on my ankle also caused by a fall. It's good now since being operated on but I have arthritis in the knees and ankles. Plus now something's gone wrong with my arm - feels like some sort of arthritis there too. Oh, the joys of aging!!!

I'm looking forward to better health as the weight comes off. It's all good this lap-banding you know. Helps improve our health in so many ways.

Ambra,

Oh that would be such an interesting job. You must be very well qualified to be put in such a position of trust. Good for you girl.

If you are only working 3 days a week I guess you will probably be ok but you might need a rest on the days off. I must say after about 10 days post op I was feeling very well - actually probably better than I had felt for ages. But I didn't stay with the mushy food for as long as I should have. I started eating very well chewed up food much earlier than I should because I was simply needing some "real" food in my tummy by then - my stomach was hurting from lack of food by that stage.

Hey Sharyn,

Just wondering how you're going. I hope your depression isn't too bad. I hate to think of anyone trying to cope with depression plus a back injury plus just having been banded. It would be hard for you to cope with any one of those things let alone all at once.

Take care and if you need a talk let us know.

Hi

I am also recently banded 3 weeks today! I am finding things very difficult emotionally, I guess I was an emotional eater and now that I cant do it I am finding myself depressed a lot of the time. I cant start any excersise yet as I injured my back not long before being banded. Anyway it would be nice to hear from anyone who has felt this way, I have also started an online journal to hopefully help me through this, feel free to check it out.

In Search Of the skinny me

Hey Sharyn. Wondering how you are. I struggle with depression too. I've had a couple very bad days. Don't know if you're on meds or not. It's really nasty crushing them. I finally figured out applesauce covers it up the best. Just wanted to let you know, you're not alone with the depression struggle. Take 1 day at a time. Even 1 hour or minute sometimes. Ambra :)

Hi Firerdad,

How are you finding the lap band journey so far? Any problems. You'd still be pretty sore from the op I guess?

I am very sore and struggling with energy the most. Thank you for the note, Dot

Socialdot,

Are you taking a Multivitamin tablet? My dietician told me I must be on them for the rest of my life. Were you told anything about that?:smile2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
