Vickie from SoCal checking in!! Feeling good, healthier...losing a steady 2-3 pounds every week. Had a third fill on Tuesday and I'm at 5cc's. Having a difficult time keeping anything down right now, but that seems to be par for the course for me. It'll loosen up in a week or so.

My only complaint so far is I can't afford to keep buying new clothes every four or five weeks.

Oh...and I miss McDonald's.

Congratulations everybody. We’re almost at our 9th month.

I have a sad story to tell. I had a real set back for the month of August.

My last fill was May 29th ---All was well for a couple of months.

Then it all turned south----I started aspirating during the night, throwing up, while I was sleeping. Also there was acid reflex along with this throwing up business. I didn’t/don’t understand why or what I did different.

I went to my medical Doctor here in Wasilla because as some of you know I went to TJ Mexico to have my lap band done. Anyway my medical doctor here in Wasilla, Dr. Woods, she said this was dangerous and she insisted that every drop of Water be taken out. I pleaded with her not to do this but like I said she was very insistent. I’ve got to admit it completely stopped the vomiting at night in my sleep and the acid reflex. I’m back to normal-- but then there is the horror story. Now I’m gaining about 1 pound per day. I suppose, my metabolism is set on super slow now. I am so depressed. I know I’ve got to take control of this situation and go swimming or something but if you know anything about depression this is going to take every drop of will power I’ve got to move. I know that this isn’t the end of the world and soon they will allow me to have another fill. It is a mystery to me as to why the aspirating began because I was doing just fine. Here I am rattling on and on. I’ll get back on track and the next

letter I write will be a positive one. I know.

Vickie, I'm so sorry to hear of this setback. Try really hard to stick to the band "diet" of Protein and veggies while you are waiting to get back on track. The South Beach program is a good one for this type of eating plan and may be helpful to you. I have heard from several people about this happening out of the blue. Usually the surgeon just takes a little bit out of the band, but your primary was probably very nervous about the situation and wanted to be on the safe side. I can't blame him/her for that - what you were experiencing is dangerous for you and could cause problems with the band if not treated. I hope you will be able to get back on track soon.

As far as missing stuff - my friend asked me that the other day - I will have to say the thing I miss most is hot food (as in temperature, not spicy). I can eat just about anything, tho I avoid the bad slider stuff most of the time - no more shakes at the drive-thru! But it takes me so long too finish a meal, much of my food is just warm by the time I finish.

Not complaining! I don't mind eating slowly and thoughtfully. This is the first time in memory I have done that and it feels good. Losing slowly - 4-5 pounds a month, but I'm not complaining about that either. I am going in the right direction and that's the important thing.

It's good to hear from everyone...

Had a very rough start but slowly getting better. Massive pulmonary embolism, breathing problems and easily exhausted, hell, I felt much better before the surgery!!!

The fact remains I've lost roughly 70 lbs and I'm happy about that. Really don't miss much of anything as I can still eat almost anything I want , just in small portions.

Bless your Heart” (quite literally) (Starting Over in NJ). I just read the definition on Massive Pulmonary embolism. It appears as though you may have had a very close call. Losing the 70 pounds is probably the best thing in the world you can do for your heath and I imagine your family must be very proud of you.

Also (to Joanne) thank you kindly for knowledge concerning the lapband and it's complications and sharing it with us.

Vickie...be thankful that the procedure you had for weight loss is, in fact, both adjustable and reversible...just in case.

Hang in there and be patient! You'll be back on track in no time!!

Hang in there, Vickie! I can imagine how frightened I would be at this point if my doc made me remove all of the Water from my band. Its not just a weight gain/loss thing at this point. . .its more about finally having a sense of control over your own life. Every one of us with a band had to first hit that low point where we were convinced that we couldn't control our own eating no matter how hard we tried. For most of us, having the band is the first real ray of confidence that we've had for years. Don't lose hope. You know that the band does work for you, and that you just need a short period to heal from your complication. You are still in control. Just try to do what you can to hold the line until your band can be filled. A few gained pounds is much less of a big deal than giving in to the old fears. Try some sugar free popsicles - they take a long time to eat. :)

I was going to complain that I've gained 2 pounds and need another fill, but your story helped put things in perspective. Thanks.

Vickie, This is a setback, yes, but it could have been a blessing, too. it is possible if the band had not been deflated, it would slip and you would need another surgery to fix it. The pounds can come off again , once you heal. i went through a similar experience- developed a sinus infection the the day after a fill; made it through the night but ended up losing most of the fill (and 8 # in 36 hours- retching) .:frown: I waited 3 weeks (Gained it all back), got the allergies under control, and had another fill this week.It is OK. There will be an end to this. Do go see the Doctor who does your fills again. Maybe even your regular doctor can prescribe something for the reflux. I had a mild case but was put on medication for reflux prior to the surgery because of the probability it could get worse.

Hey Holiday Hotties! Just wanted to stop by and say that I'm doing great! This lap band is a life saver. I read all your posts as I subscribe to these and I'm glad to see how great everyone is doing. If you would like to hear details, you can check out my blog on here, but basically I'm 2 pounds away from being 100 pounds down from my weight at my initial consult. It's really exciting and the scale is consistently going down. I wish you all the best!

That's awesome! I hope that everyone that is struggling has a quick resolution. My heart goes out to you. I feel very lucky that things have gone so smoothly for me so far. I also know after 9 months that your body determines your rate of weight loss. I'm tall and had alot of weight to lose, so the numbers are going to be bigger than someone of average height or that started at a lower weight. I lost a lot of weight fairly quickly and now it has started coming off more slowly. Sometimes I get discouraged when I'm doing everything right and the scale doesn't move, but if I stick with it, I'll see it go down again in little bursts. Congratulations and good luck to all the Holiday Hotties!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about the complications some people have had. Before I lost any weight I was super healthy and never had any problems. Now it seems like the closer I get to my goal weight the sicker I get! hahaha nothing serious I really just think it's funny. I have had to get 2 unfills in the last month and a half because I've gotten sick and my band has tightened up. I was at 7.75cc's and now I'm at 6.25cc's. I just got my seccond unfill today cause I came down with the flu. They took out 1cc so we will see how much I gain from that. hahaha not too worried about it though because once I'm feeling better I will just get another fill. Other than getting sick a few times I'm doing great! I'm now 176 and a size 12/14. My highest weight was 324 and a size 26/28.

Sweetheart, you are doing fantastic!! Everyone has ups and downs. No one said the lapband was a "Easy " button. Had my 1st unfill in August- ( Allergies hit immediately after a fill). But Life Happens. and you will get through this. (think of how much sicker you would be with the extra weight!) You have done great!!! And you should be proud!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
