I have a surgery date of 11/24. I had a consult on Wednesday. My HMO will not cover it and since I have spinal stenosis needing surgery, severe arthritis in my knees making that surgery not feasible due to being unable to do the rehab after, I decided I would just have to finance it. I am so tired of being in pain every minute of the day and being unable to do hardly anything. They asked when I wanted it and I said ASAP. I was really thinking Dec!! Anyway, I have daily apps. getting all the pre-op testing done. I have to do a two week Liquid Protein diet. I simply cannot drink anything that tastes terrible. I have not read about anyone liking these drinks yet. Can anyone recommend a Protein Drink that actually tastes good that would be acceptable??? Thanks and good luck to all!! I saw several 11/24 people!!

I have tried the Unjury chocolate and it is SO good mixed with skim milk! I also mix unjury unflavored with crystal light fruit punch and it is good.

What kind of Protein Shakes are you drinking? I start my pre-op diet on tuesday and I am a little worried about the shake thing? I have had some great advice from other people but always good to get more tips/advice. Good luck with surgery. Keep us posted on how that goes. Thanks so much!

I have heard that the slim fast high Protein Shakes are pretty good. One tip I have been told is to make sure it is really cold and mix with fresh fruit. I am the same. Very anxious about the Protein Shake too. I can not eat or drink stuff that has a strong nasty smell. I start my pre-op diet on tuesday.

I will keep you posted. Good luck!

YA!!! I got my surgery date. November 18th for me. The only preop diet he told me to do was to lose 4 pounds. Apparently I am four pounds heavier this visit than on my initial visit four months ago. At first I was like "hey, no problem" then it dawned on me that the week of surgery is the week of my period. This doctor is very, very strict. If I don't lose 4 pounds or more he will not do the surgery. So I was going to start a liquid Protein Shake diet two weeks before surgery. I will need to loose at least 10 pounds to make up for the Water retention I'll have from my period. Any suggestions?:)

I have to lose 5 lbs or no surgery for me and also my period is the week of my surgery. But yet I got weighed yesterday during my period and had lost 2.5 lbs. I don't think I'll have a problem. I sure hope not. My surgery is the 24th and my preop starts November 10th need to lose 5 lbs by the 17th. I'll be on a Protein Shake for Breakfast, one for lunch, and lowcarb high Protein lean meat and green veggies for dinner...like skinless chicken thighs etc.

About 3lbs. But I'm sure it's just Water weight, because usually the first week or two of Atkins that's all you lose. I'm hoping for at least another 2lbs before Wednesday's surgery.

But the pre-op diet is not about losing weight for me, it's just about avoiding complex carbs and shrinking my liver. My doctor doesn't have a set amount of weight that I have to lose in order to get the surgery - thank God - or else I'd never make it! :rolleyes2:

I'm just worried I'm not going to be able to lose anymore cause I've already lost 28 lbs just eating 1600 calories or less a day and not any lower than 1200. They told me I would because of ketosis...but I sure hope so. After working this hard to lose this and such and to get banded arguing with insurance all that I don't need to be cancelled due to 5 lbs lol

Hi everyone, I just registered with lapbandtalk tonite. I got my approval from my insurance and my surgery is Nov 12th. I started the 14-day diet on 10/28 and as of tonite I have already lost 4 pounds. WOW! I was not expecting that. I have such mixed emotions about this, I am not sure what to say. I am scared, happy, worried, and even hungry. Do you all feel this too? This is absolutely something I want to do for not only myself but my family. I just can't believe it's really going to happen

Hey Mom6 and all - I'm totally in the same boat as you all. I haven't posted at all until yesterday b/c I had been so in denial that I would ever get approved and that I had 2 months to go, and blah blah. But here we are - my surgery is literally 19 days away. I have the same question as the most recent posts on this thread - and I wanted to ask specific questions:

- what supplements have you been taking during your pre-op? and I'm sure we've all been poking around about suggestions for pre/post-op supplements - any good observations? [i'll list mine below]

- a total liquid diet seems so impossible to me - would most of you say that some kind of modified Atkins' Diet seem the way to go?

okay, so I'll share some research with you all and if I got anything wrong here, please PLEASE let me know :hurray:

- supplements seem so critical - a solid Multivitamin, Calcium, B12, Iron all are critical, but I haven't seen anything about other herbal supplements to keep energy levels up, to balance hormones, maybe even a cleaning kind of routine to get our bodies totally ready for this transformation. Has anyone had success with a more involved regimen of supplements or is it all hype?

- Slimfast and one meal per day - so it seems like the pre-op diet can be about 2 meals w/the Protein drink and one which is very limited and focused on lean meats and veggies only - no carbs if possible. I guess I'll worry about the post-op meal issues when that bridge gets closer.

Thanks again all, I hope I'm not clogging up this thread too much, but I'm done lurking and want to share anything that may be useful for folks who are like me :rolleyes2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
