Really need some advice--Fill

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Today I went for my first fill. The hospital I go to is a teaching hospital. The doctor brought in a doctor who is training under her. He was competent and nice. She supervised him the entire time. He seemed to miss the port and she said to let her try. She also tried. She then said that the saline when somewhere but not sure it went into the band! So, I drank water...I couldn't tell if there was difference. Tonight, I've been able to eat anything I want. I even tried Pasta for the first time since surgery to see if it would be a problem....nope. What do I do? Go back? Wait a week and try to eat small meals every 3 or 4 hours to see how I do?

She did say to come back if I felt I don't have a fill. But I am just ticked. She said at some point she might have to do it under floroscope.

Thank you for your help!

Ks

It depends on how much she "thought" she put in, but I would say you should have felt SOMETHING. I was restricted just drinking Water when I sat up, so the PA took half of mine out. I have heard of not feeling much restriction until maybe a weeks later, but I would think you should be at least able to tell you had one. I would probably go on and call and go back in.

My fill was really tight when I first got it. I could feel the restriction right away and had to be pretty careful the first week of eating so I did not get stuck. Now I can pretty much eat what I want. I have had to fight the urge! I get my second fill next week, can't wait!

My wife and I both had our first fills today. I had 2 cc's and my wife 1.5 cc's. I didn't feel lots of restriction when I sat up and drank the Water. I get a slight full feeling. Doc said everyone is different. I watched as my wife was getting her fill and the doc showed me he knows he is in the port when he puts saline in and can also pull it back out. I would definitely call the your doctor's office tomorrow.

Yikes... How are you supposed to have confidence in your doc if they send you out the door unsure whether or not the fill was successful?

I've had two fills so far (Post Op Week 3 and Week 7) The first didn't provide any fresh restriction, but the second did. I'm already looking forward to the next fill in 3 weeks.

Good luck to you. I would certainly be calling the doc's office and on the next appt. they wouldn't be able to drag me out of there until I knew the fill was successful.

Hi kathy, i am so glad for this site. I just got my 2nd fill yesterday 10/2/08. I had a similar experience. The first fill 9/11/08 was done by my surgeon and took maybe 20 seconds definitely not even close to a miniute and it didn't hurt at all. The 2nd fill the doctor's nurse couldn't find the port and even changed needles in the middle of it. After trying for 10-15 minutes and me mentioning maybe we should call the doctor in; she said she got it and put in 2cc's but i don't feel restriction. My doctor is at a seminar until mid-oct. But i'm going to call him as soon as he returns if i'm still not feeling any restriction. I have heard though it could take up to 2 weeks after a fill to kick in. I don't know if it's true. Thanks for sharing. I was specifically looking for this; to see if it happened to anyone else. Here's to all of us finding our sweet spot.

Goodbody out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
