Three meals-or snacks as well?

Recommended Posts

I had thought we were suppsed to stick to 3 meals per day with no snacking so that we don't stretch out our pouch and cause slipping? I saw that some of you are also snacking...what are you doing?

My doctor says only 3 meals. Just curious.

Three meals, no Snacks. Eating snacks in between ends up making your entire eating pattern a grazing, which my doc is firmly against. He is of the belief that grazing is contrary to how the band is intended to work.

I eat when I'm hungry. If that means snacking I do. If I wait until mealtime, then I am too hungry and i tend to eat too much and too fast. If a little 100 cal sncks tides me over I'm all for it. In my post op care packet it has 3 meals and 3 Snacks worked into the day.

I have been told that at 5 weeks I should be eating 3 meals and 2 snacks...then dropping it back to 3 meals after 6 weeks... I don't know if i'll be able to cope but I figure once I get the fill then the band will help me keep it to those 3 meals per day!

I'm supposed to have three 1/2 cup meals (heavy on the protein) and one healthy snack. Since I don't have a fill yet, a Protein snack such as Greek Yogurt to help keep me sated was suggested by the doctor. After I have a fill, the diet sheet gives SF Jello as one recommendation for a snack. Fingers crossed, so far, no "bandster's hell".

I think it depends on the definition of snack. I'm just eating when I'm hungry (on good days), which happens to be every three hours (pre fill). This takes me up to four meals a day, or three meals and a snack. I would love to make it to four hours between meals, but when I say hungry, I do mean hungry!

I am supposed to have 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks each day. Snackes are pretty small - yogurt, nuts, sf fudgcicle etc. I have a hard time eating at all of the times I am supposed to eat. So I usually eat 3 meals and have 1-2 snacks.

I eat 250-300 calories every 4 hours which comes out to 4 times per day. Sometimes it's 4 full small meals, sometimes some of them are a snack type food. If I want to eat something higher calorie at one meal I balance it by making the one before or after it smaller so I come out to 1000-1200 calories per day. It keeps me full and I'm losing so it must be working :)

Im eating most days 3 meals plus Protein Shake in the morning on the way to work, as eating before 5.30am is just not something i can do. and after i get home from work, i am usually hungry, and have a cup of Soup, which is also a Protein based packet soup. At the moment this is working for me. and i am losing a steady and consisten amount of weight each week, so i will stick with this routine, untill it stops working for me.

Hey they want me to not snack also, but I am Type II diabetic and I need that little calorie boost. I add them into my calorie count of approximately 1200 calories a day. Usually it's fat free/sugar free, yogurt and pudding. Just that little shot of chocolate sure helps. As long as I am losing at a nice and steady pace, I will do what I feel is comfortable for me. It keeps me from overeating at my meals also.

I am eating a meal or snack every three to four hours. Sometime's it's hard to tell the difference between a meal and a snack nowadays. Anyway i eat around five to six times per day. My nutritionist says it's best because it keeps my metabolism going. Plus I drink a lot of Water throughout the day.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
