Hi All:

My twin sister, Sandy, had the lap band done about a year ago. She is looking great and she has inspired me to want to look into this procedure. I am going to her surgeon. I have about 100 lbs to lose.

The nice thing is that Sandy has already been through the procedure so I can ask her lots of questions! Sandy lives in Anaheim Hills and most of her support group is in the Orange County area. I will meet them soon. I want to ask if there is anyone close to me (LAX area) that is about to have the lap band procedure or has had it?

Anyway, looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi Patty,

I am in Pasadena and am looking into the LapBand as well. I am looking for surgeons right now and am interested in who your sister went to. I am not sure whether or not insurance will pay for it or if I will have to be self pay so I'm looking into both options. I also have about 100-110 lbs to lose and am so excited about it. Any info you have would be great but it would be nice to have a friend that is going through this too.

I think it would be great to have the support of your twin sister. I am happy to hear she is doing so well . . . and it will be great if you are in the same position next year. Good luck!!!

Wow thanks for all of your great responses!

I'm going to see Dr. Ninh Nguyen (714-456-8598) in Irvine on Oct. 9th. I chose him because he did my sister's surgery so I wanted to go with someone I knew. Hopefully, if I get approved and all goes well, I should have the lap-band the first week of December (quiet time at work).

If any of you ever want to meet in the Torrance or Redondo Beach are - I am up for that. We will all be starting our journeys together - so we can compare experiences

Hi everyone!

I'm Sandy and I'm Patty's twin sister. I told Patty to log on and soon enough she'd find friends and she has!! Thanks everyone for introducing yourself.

I had my surgery Mar '07 and so far I've lost 80 lbs. I had my surgery with Dr. Nguyen at UCI.

We have support groups at UCI every 3rd Tuesday of the month. The address is: 200 S. Manchester Ave, Classroom B-Room 845, Orange, CA 92868. Feel free to join us. :bolt:

And congratulations to everyone for taking that step into lapband world. It's the best thing I've ever done! I wish everyone much success.

Hi Brandie

Good luck with your surgery on Oct 3rd. I'm still gathering all my information and am hoping to start this new road in my life by Dec or Jan.

It would be nice to meet. We can go through this together and be each others support.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
