Good afternoon!

I just joined LapBandTalk today, although I've been banded since August 2007. Unfortunately, I have not been as successful as I had originally hoped, and I got very discouraged. To date I have lost just under 40 pounds.

One of the nurses that works with my surgeon encouraged me to join this forum for support since I find it difficult to attend the weekly support group meetings that they hold in my area.

I am hoping that by becoming a part of this community, I can remember the excitement I once felt about starting a new phase of life, and doing the right thing for my health and well-being. Once I am able to, I hope to offer encouragement (quid pro quo) to others who are in my situation.

I am a 43 year old wife and mother of an autistic 11 year old. Overweight my entire life, I weighed almost 250 pounds when I had surgery last year. The first couple of months were difficult but I managed to get down to about 209 before the weight loss stalled. Currently I weigh about 213.

I'm happy to be here - thanks in advance for your support!

It's really nice to meet you! I am getting ready to have my surgery on October 27th and like you I'm at my highest - 250. I have been overweight my whole life and I'm ready to end it. I want to start feeling "normal" (whatever that means huh). I want to be able to go to Wal Mart and pick up jeans in the teen's not 20's!

I think you will find this group - no matter what state you are in - will lift you up and encourage you. Remember you did this for yourself and no one else. You did this surgery to make yourself feel and look better ~ you will be fine! Keep you chin up and pray!!

Good luck~~~ April~~~

Nice to meet you. I'm sorry your lapband isn't working for you the way you had hoped? I am struggling now too, so if you ever need a soul to talk to, pm me.

I hope that this site helps, it helps me. It keeps me motivated and goal directed.

Glad to have you here.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
