Recommended Posts

Hello

I went through the same thing. I was up about 8lbs for about a week after surgery. I then dropped 13lbs 2 weeks after surgery and I am 4 weeks post-op and down 20lbs. :) Just hang in there you will start to lose soon. :tongue2:

that's totally normal. It's from the swelling and the fluid... not to mention they blow up your belly with gas to make room for for the surgery...

You will see the difference in a week or so.

I am the exact same way - 20 lbs down before surgery, had my surgery the 15th as well, came home and weighed 7 pounds more. Good to know everyone goes through it. I just figured it was because of all of the Fluid through the IV's and gas they pump into you.

I was also banded on the 15Th & have had a 4 pound increase from the day I went in. I'm sure it must be all the IV fluids. I cant see any other way I could have gained. I was 15 lbs down from the slim fast diet I did 2 weeks prior to surgery and the day before I was only allowed Clear Liquids. Since surgery all I have had is liquids power aid, cranberry juice cocktail and a couple of slim fast optima shakes. I think I will try some cream of chicken Soup for dinner tonight. I don't know how U all feel but I really have no appetite at all ,and I'm having a hard time getting the required liquids in. But I was allowed nothing by mouth for over 30 hours after surgery cuz I had to wait for my swallow test and then for the doc to approve. So the first time I even got Water was around 3pm yesterday. I wonder when hunger will kick in? What all are u guys eating/ drinking to get ur Protein in to keep from getting weak? I don't want to get dehydrated or malnourished but I also don't want to hurt the band !!! Any input would be much appreciated.

Ya the same thing happened with me. Went in at around 211 and came out at 225 LOL. Lost it in a week or two and continue to lose about 2 lbs a week. So far very happy. Had home made Pasta sauce and meatballs (2) and 1/4 cup of sauce over 2/3 cup cooked spaghetti with a bit of cheese. And was totally full. That's about 1/3 of what I normally have eaten. I do make great sauce LOL

Took me a while and now I know my limit. Having my first fill on Friday.

im not hungry at all either. I still have quite a bit of bloating. I have been drinking sips of Isopure throughout the day and extreme smoothie protien shake. I also have proti Soups i bought in cream of Tomato, cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, and chicken noodle. Hubby is going to store tonight to buy powdered egg whites to add to beef up the protien in whatever i eat.( drink really ) lol

I had my surgery consult today and nutrition. The nurse mentioned the weight gain that some have. I think that is why we should hide the scale and not think success is only in the lbs lost. You've taken giant strides so give your body a chance to settle. Cheers for you!!

Yep, gained exactly 7lbs! Down to the stupid ounce!!!

Took me a week and half to lose it too. I don't add it to my total WL but maybe I should! Since then, I've lost about more 7lbs, according to my scale this AM. (It's not official til Friday though.) Oh and I'm 3 1/2 weeks out from surgery.

Hi, glad I found this thread, you all answered exactly my question: I had my surgery Thursday 9/25, and came home that afternoon and weighed 6 pounds MORE than I did that morning! Ha! Well, I sure haven't taken anything in to speak of since the surgery, only broth, tea, sugar free Jello, so I know I have really "gained" 6 pounds. I have been told not to worry about the scale right now, only about healing, but it's nice to know that your collective experiences suggest that the extra 6 pounds will likely disappear in a week or so. Thanks! We all need all the encouragement we can get!

Hey everyone, my first thread. am so excited. So i am 6 days post op and I have only lost two pounds. Am glad that there are other people out here that had the same issue. I am sot sure if i gained weight after surgery, am sure I did though, but I refused to weigh until one week after the banding. I have been doing the clear fuilds and lots of Water diet. But I saw my doctor yesterday and he said that it can be normal to gain a few pounds. So am not to worried. So now I am on the mushy foods. I bought the weight control oatmeal and some butternut squash Soup and so on to eat throughout the next three weeks. But I was alittle concerned cause Jello just was not filling me up, I would feel hungry after I was done eating but I would only eat the half of cup as requried. Am storting to feel alot better now though, to know am not the only one feeling this way. thanks everyone...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
