WHY are people voting for McCain?

Recommended Posts

It is very hard to compare based of the circumstances surrounding this monumental time in history. This race stood for change from a past that was very difficult for so many. I think that Elizabeth was just able to see how important this win was for so many Americans. As for myself...I would have been very disappointed and very sad, but I certainly would have been able to deal with it. I have dealt with it for the past 8 years and longer. It is what we are used to and what we have had to deal with for years....but I guess we will never know.

I agree Coffi,

I was surprised how well Elizabeth handled the situation and you could tell she was just as touched as most people were by Obama's speech.

Plain...why are you asking such a question? Perhaps they would be more gracious than Elizabeth. :^)

Obama was more gracious than McCain throughout the entire campaign. Does it really matter after the fact, or considering that it will never ever occur?

Perhaps they would have. And no, it doesn't really matter. I was just musing.....Joy seems much more vitriolic than Elizabeth (or Barbara or Whoopi, for that matter).

I think it is fabulous that a black man can achieve the position of president. (or any color man for that matter) I only hoped that a black man of character (or any man of character for that matter) would get that

position.

The celebration of seeing the day when a family of color lives in the White House to me is exceptional.

It isn't good, though, when we see people praising or practically worshiping Him (or anyone) as the Savior of our country. He is not the Savior. In his speach, he made certain to mention that it will be a year or even a full term before you can see his promises, and people are pinning their hopes on him. We give the president of the US alot of power that he just doesn't have. (Jesus alone is the Savior, and when we start looking to others for our help, God turns away.)

He made alot of promises to the people,(he wanted to get elected, they all do that) that he will not have the power to keep.

I have great concern for this country when the head of it, feels it is just fine to murder the unborn if you choose to do so, and feels that marriage should be for anyone but a woman and a man.( when you start messing with God's laws, you're in for it. Where does it end? I have my rights, and as a citizen of this country, I want to marry my brother cause I'm in love with him. Who's to say I can't?) I have a problem with a president who lies to get what he desires. I have a problem with health ins. for all. (who's going to pay for it?) God said if you don't work, then you don't get to eat. Period! Why should I have to pay for someone elses health care? If he decides to take away our right to bear arms, only the criminals and the government will have them. Look out!

I'm not saying that Obama is not a nice man. He's probably very nice, but He is against most of the things that our God in Heaven stands for and when you go the route of the world and ignore God's ways, you will fail.

First off, I think every candidate that runs for office makes a lot of promises that they are very unlikely going to be able to keep. They say what they have to say to win the votes of the American people. And I don't care if Obama, McCain or Mickey Mouse won the election, you will not see this country turned around over night. It took us eight long years to get where we are and it is going to take a long time to get things right again.

As for the whole religious aspect, again, I believe that should be kept out of politics. Not all of us believe in your God or want the head of our country basing all of his decisions upon some book that has been written by who knows what authors based upon what beliefs that have changed numerous times over the centuries.

There are a lot of people who do work but even though they do, they cannot afford health insurance. Many companies health insurance packages, such as non-profits, are very expensive and not very good. Many people do work, and they work very hard. Some were not able to go to college due to personal circumstances that you may never understand, but they do work and they work hard. So, because they don't make as much money, they are not deserving of health insurance? I am sorry, but I believe everyone should be afforded the health care that they need, regardless of whether they are wealthy, poor, disabled, an adult, child, black, white, red or pink. And, I don't have any problem with helping others who are less fortunate than me. In fact, that is what I do for a living. I work for a company that helps others who are less fortunate. And not everyone is that way because they are lazy. There is a lot more to it than if you don't work, you don't eat. What kind of God is that, that doesn't have a problem with seeing people go hungry? I thought he was all loving? Hmmm, I just don't get it, I really don't.

I have great concern for this country when the head of it, ... feels that marriage should be for anyone but a woman and a man.

When did he say that. He said in the debates that he saw marriage as a man and woman. Yes, he does believe in rights for domestic partners, but that is not the same as marriage.

I have a problem with a president who lies to get what he desires. I have a problem with health ins. for all. (who's going to pay for it?) God said if you don't work, then you don't get to eat. Period!.

Where did God say that one? Jesus used examples of unfaithfulness, and used talents and money, but he also told the rich man to sell all he had and go feed the poor. Jesus was always one who wanted people to help others.

If he decides to take away our right to bear arms, only the criminals and the government will have them. Look out!

I'm not saying that Obama is not a nice man. He's probably very nice, but He is against most of the things that our God in Heaven stands for and when you go the route of the world and ignore God's ways, you will fail.

What does the right to bear arms have to do with faith?

Granted, I am one who wants strict interpretation of the second ammendment - if we must insist on the right to bear arms, then cool... everyone gets to own as many muzzle-load muskets as they want - it was good enough for the framers of the constitution, it should be good enough for you.

But it certainly is not a "Christian teaching."

Please, if you're going to argue President Elect Obama is not who Jesus would vote for, at least give rational arguements. If you give me the choice of a man who wants to improve the lot of the country (at least his words, since only history will say for sure) or a man with a foul mouth and an angry temper who seems to be happy taking us to war with the world, I will take the one for improvement.

bolding mine .... your God is not everyone's god. there are many many many many religions in this world. and i think it's rather presumptuous of you to ass-u-me that everyone does (or should) have your beliefs.

Patty, there is a productive way of sharing your views and Christianity and there is a very unproductive way of doing so. When you go out on the attack, using strong words and judging people, no one wants to hear the message behind those words. It is no wonder that so many people view Christians as intolerant when they read responses such as yours. It is the reason that so many people feel unwelcome and shunned from the church. The church is supposed to be a welcoming community that draws people in and when people are constantly belittled and judged they will never want to be part of that community. Who wants to be made to feel bad about themselves? Everyone has their own crosses to bear and that should not make us intolerant of them.

God wants people to help those who aren't able to help themselves, but he wants those who can work to help themselves. He said in 2 Thess. 3:10 "if a man shall not work, he shall not eat."

When Jesus told the man to go and sell all that he had and feed the poor, he was trying to teach about how hard it is for the rich man to enter heaven. The rich man was thinking in terms of earning righteousness to inherit eternal life but Jesus taught that it was a gift to be recieved. He wasn't telling us to sell all our posessions and give it away.

"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need." Acts 4:32-35

I bolded the anyone. Of course times are different now than they were back in the days of Jesus. You can't just sell off all of your possessions and expect to survive. But too many people today put their own wants above others needs.

Did I attack you????? What strong words did I use???? Who did I judge??? I understand that Jesus is not everyones God. But He is mine. And I believe I should be able to express my views on Obama and why I feel he is not a man of character just like the rest of you do. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make the rules , God does. If His laws offended someone here, then their problem is with Him, not me. I believe in God and therefore, I try my best to abide by what He says is right. I'm not perfect.

I have found that people get so bent out of shape when you tell them what GOD has to say on any issue (as if they were my own laws and not His) I guess it's just hard to hear what you don't want to hear from the one who Created us. Because if you say you believe in God, you would then have to obey him, and people just want to live the way they want to.

If you don't believe in God, well, that's your choice too.

There is a large differnce in 'giving' what you have to those in need, and the government 'taking' what you have to give to those in need.

I think Joy has resigned herself to the fact that she's an old hag so she's decided she's earned the right to be grumpy and bitchy. She gives post-menopausal women a bad name.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
