I decided to start a new thread because my surgery date is fast approaching. I am getting very nervous. I am having a lower body lift with a hernia repair. I am staying one night in the hospital. I will go home with a pain pump. I should have drains in for 2 weeks. I am taking 3 weeks off from work. I am getting partial insurance coverage becaues of the hernia repair. My surgeon said that I can expect her to remove between 5-9 lbs which should easily put me at goal. Of course I am hoping for much closer to 9. I am driving my friends and family crazy with my nervous chatter on the topic. Can anyone relate? Anyway - I think that I included the usual questions that people want to know when they read these threads! Most of my nervousness stems from not being able to do things for myself and fear of gaining weight becaue my exercise will be so limited! Can anyone relate to that? Am I being silly? Hope whoever reads this thread will find it as informative as I have found all those who have gone before me! :)

Hi Karen,

Good luck and I will be right there wishing you the best and watching your progress.

Of course it's very normal to be nervous. That said, you'll be just fine!

Don't worry about gaining weight. My Dr. told me before my first surgery that I would lose weight because my body would be consuming a tremendous amount of energy healing, and he was right :thumbup::D!!!! With two surgeries this summer, my exercise routine has been severely disrupted and yet I have continued to lose quite a bit of weight. I won't weigh myself again until I get home, but I won't be the least bit surprised if I've lost another 5 or 6 pounds (or more) from Round 2.

It won't be long now and you'll be in the flatlands and looking totally hot girl :frown::tt1::frown:! Have a great day!!!

Thanks Frangi - I think I am obsessing too much on the scale! I imagine that I will be dissapointed if they don't take off too many lbs but I don't really know why I am so worried about that since I am about 1lb from goal. Truthfully, I dont really feel like I need to lose more fat just SKIN. Also I keep thinking about how many inches I will go down - also not too logical because I am tall enought (almost 5'7") that the size 10s and size 8s I get into now look fine on me. The body issues never end do they? Probably all this thinking about the results is helping me NOT deal with my nervousness about the surgery.

Karen,

I'm thinking about you. I remember getting nervous too. It's normal.

I'm 4 weeks out now and I have a little more energy, but in an effort to keep swelling down, I'm going to bed earlier than normal since I'm at work all day. I'm bored watching TV!

You'll be here before you know it. Good Luck!

OK - here is the question. I am going to have my TOM during surgery. It is late (definately not pregnant) so at this point unless it comes tomorrow I will have it on surgery day. Anyone know what the deal is with this? Do I need to call and tell them? That seems unlikely. ;)

Your posting caught my eye because my name is Karen G., too! But when I started to read it, I realized that following your progress will be a good way for me to find out what the lower body lift is all about, since that is what I am thinking for myself when I reach goal.

Good luck to you. You must be excited to be entering into the second half of your "transformation." I'm envious!

Karen G.

Thanks Frangi. The biggest Q for me right now is what to do if my TOM isn't over. I think it will be mostly over but not 100%. Sucks right? Also, I am probably as it turns out in the hospital for 2 days. I can ask my sister to post an update if she can but I don't think there is wireless in the hospital. I will certainly post something when I get home.

It will be there and you'll cope just fine! Thinking of you and wishing you the best! My prayers will be with you on on the 18th!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
