How do you get that feeling?

Recommended Posts

You know, the one where you eat something delicious and can be satisfied with just a small taste of it. I'm having a hard time with that one. I went to a BBQ yesterday and the food was absolutely amazing. I tried, and mostly was able to stick with small portions but I didn't want to do that. I was mad because I couldn't truly partake of the wonderful food. I forced myself to eat an entire chicken breast, along with small bits of the side dishes. I was so full I was absolutely miserable, thought I was gonna puke and we had to leave because I felt so terrible. I didn't eat much other than that the whole day and still feel full this morning. Gah! What did I do to myself and how the heck do you get to the point where you aren't mad that you can't eat more and are just so happy and satisfied with a little bit?

Hi Ezma

Don't beat yourself up. We've all done it. I don't know if there is a magic time when we stop making mistakes or doing things we regret. Hopefully those "times" just more and more infrequent!

This is coming from someone who ate 4 popsicles yesterday......after one year of being banded, I should know better.

Hugs Ezma, I hear you.

Last weekend we decided that we had been working so hard around the house we would indulge in Chinese take away for dinner. We normally buy a few meals and a rice and share it between us. So that's what we did. And we would usually eat until we were overful, then wait 20 mins and eat again...you know that feeling with Chinese food.

Well I could hardly eat 3 bites. It was tough. I was having one of those 'band-fickle' nights where I couldn't eat much, whereas the next night, I could eat a plateful! I was destroyed that I couldn't enjoy it anymore.

I really really enjoyed chowing down to chinese food. I really do miss that, and I felt gutted this time around. I guess I am going to have to refrain on some foods more than others.

I know how you feel. There are times when I miss that feeling of just really stuffing your face. I deal with those situations by having a little taste of everything. For me, I wouldn't have "wasted" all that room on a whole chicken breast, no matter how yummy. I would have had a quarter of one and left room to sample everything else, so that I didn't feel deprived.

I've done the same with Chinese. My extended family is quite fond of going to the local Chinese nosh-up as a group and ordering the banquet meals, usually Soup, some appetisers and about 6 dishes with rice (the dishes come spread out over the night). I take one small spoonful from every dish and chew each bite thoroughly to savour the flavour. If, at the end, I can squeeze a bit more in, I might have a second spoonful of my favourite, but usually I'm done but I don't feel like I've missed out because I got to taste everything.

I have the same issue, Ezma. I KNOW better, but still the emotional enjoyment of tasting sometimes does win...that momentary mouth pleasure is soon lost to the stomach pain!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
