Nikki,

Hey I am doing pretty good. First day back to work was pretty hard. I sit at a desk so it was pretty hard to sit straight up all day, but other than that I am doing good. I am down 20 pounds since I started my preop on the 27th of Oct. I am pretty excited about that. I will start creamys on Sunday with liquid yogurt. Good luck and keep in touch,

Carrie

I am 3 days post surgery and am doing pretty well. My stomach is sore and I have gas but it is tolerable. Rest when you can and walk, walk, walk and it does help. I am still getting help getting in and out of the bed but otherwise I am getting around pretty well. Each day is a little better. As far as being hungry - no, I am not. I have to take in 50 grams of Protein a day and all the liquids I can handle and that's hard to do, I just don't have an appitite. Good luck on your surgery.

I too am 3 days from post surgery and I'm having a difficult time getting the 60 grams of Protein in each day along with the Water. I can't figure our when I'm hungry or not. Does that sound strange to anyone else? I did lose 28 pounds on the pre op liquid regiment.

How do you get all your Water and Protein drinks in each day without drinking too much too quickly thus getting nausea??

Hey everyone...

You know I am so shocked to hear some of the responses of what everyone is doing post op. I know every doctor is different. I was banded at the OCC by Dr. Martinez which is under Dr. Ortiz. We cannot have ANY food for 21 days. No Protein for 11 Days. The first 7 days is Clear Liquids, Day 8 you add 1/2 cup of Liquid yogurt and Day 11 you start cream Soups and Protein 1/2 cup at a time. No Solid foods until 21 days out. If you cant drink it you cant have it, so to speak. I am on day 8 and I am having to make myself drink liquids, I feel sooo full. I did drink my first 1/2 cup of liquid yogurt today and it was VERY good. It makes me wonder why every doctor is different. All I know is that my doctor says you have to have time for your stomach to heal. The thought of eating and drinking something really thick scares me to death. I am so scared I am going to slip my band or hurt myself. I know everyone is different. As far as drinking the Liquid Protein right after surgery, oh my, I could not do it. I have trouble getting 16 oz of clear fluids down a day as it is now. I think the only advice I can give is listen to your body. If you are feeling full, maybe you are full. I would not push it right out of surgery. Again good luck and I would love to know what everyone else thinks.

I have found the 42g Liquid Protein bullets to be really helpful. They are 3 ounces and about 170cals. No sugars or carbs. Granted, they're a little bit thicker in consistency than water, and they taste like a cross between Crystal Light and Dimetapp cough Syrup - but they work for me! I have a Protein shake for Breakfast, half the protein bullet for lunch (in one quick swig) and the other half of the protein bullet at dinner time (in another quick swig). They're a little expensive, but it helps me get my protein in each day without having to drink so many 8oz Protein shakes.

Once I'm able to move on to solids, I imagine I won't use the bullets as much since I'll be able to eat mostly food to get my protein (my doctor recommends you get as much solid protein as possible once you're able).

In stores, they're about $3.50/ea. I did a lot of research before I bought them online, and this website is the cheapest I found them. I've had both Grape and fruit Punch, and I won't say they're great, but they get the job done.

Ids New whey Liquid Protein 42 Gram Grape - 12 Btls by IDS at DPS Nutrition - The Nation's leader in Discount Nutrition

They just came out with a multi-pack, which is 4 of each flavor (Grape, Fruit Punch, Orange) so that seems like a good deal if you want a few flavors.

That's is so helpful to hear that there are people like me that are soooooo afraid of overdoing something that could make the band slip. After reading through some other threads, I've come to the conclusion that I'm no suppose to be getting more than 24 to 32 ounces of any liquid whether that be broth, Water, Protein drink, Jello etc. And most importantly like some of the others here, I think the vanilla Protein Drink is just too much for my healing stomach. Because as I respond and trying to suck down this last bit of p-drink, I find myself feeling nausea again.

It's wierd that something that tasted good pre op now almost disgusts me as I sip it.

Good Morning fellow November bandsters!!! Everyday I'm feeling so much better! I ended up spending the nite and glad I did. Dr Singh found a high anal hernia during surgery. He was able to repair it. ALL of my pain has been from the hernia repair.

I was so scared before going under....the anastastia is the worst for me.

How is everyone else doing? I can't believe it will be a week this Tuesday. Anyone else had hernia repair during banding? Would love to hear from you!!!

BTW....how can I add the counter & sparkles?

Hi all, I was banded on 11/20 at Harper Hospital in Detroit. I just wanted to say that it's been so comforting to read the posts and realize that I'm not alone in going through this.

I had my surgery on 11/24 and also had a hiatel hernia repaired. I beleive that most of the pain and discomfort is from that. It is getting better each day. I have a lot of gas and am burping a lot and have some soreness in my belly at incision sites. I am moving around very well. I al also having some slight shoulder pain.

Having a hard time gettting the Protein down.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
