100% of goal weight loss within 1 year

I just wanted to get an idea of the number of people who were able to lose 100% of their goal weight within or at 1 year post op?

My goal is 112lbs, and I would like to know if its realistic. I have seen several places, that band patients lose 50% by the first year, and the the rest over the next 2 years, making a total goal weight in 3 years.

Please respond with the time it took you and the total lost.

I lost 38 pounds before banding, and then 104 pounds from band date to first year anniversary. So, I do think that 112 pounds is possible, but you'll probably have to exercise like a maniac. I've been exercising 1 1/2 to 2 hours per day 6 days per week.

I am exercising, but not that much. That is awesome.

My new best friend is my Nintendo WII and Dance Dance Revolution. I play that often for about 1 hour and I am soaked, but its enjoyable and doesn't feel like a chore.

Hi Myellen--

I had my surgery November 13th of last year, and I have lost about 105 lbs. since starting the pre-op diet a week prior to surgery. From talking to my Dr. and other people who have had the surgery, I don't necessarily think my results are typical, but I totally 100% agree with Sue. Exercise is very much the key--I work out 4 days a week for about an hour and a half. It's definitely possible to lose your goal of 112 lbs. I don't think I'm necessarily going to hit my goal by my anniversary as I had more to lose than that, but I should be pretty darn close. I'm a heck of a lot closer than I was 10 months ago--and I have absolutely no regrets. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Congratulations on your weight loss--keep up the great work!! :smile2:

I think a lot of it has to do with what you put into it. Exercising, watching calories, eating healthy non-slider foods, following band rules, drinking lots of Water, etc make all the difference in the world to whether you make your goals or not and how quickly you attain them.

Is it possible to make your goal . . . 112 pounds over 52 weeks would require losing 2.16 pounds a week . . . so it is possible but it is also a very aggressive goal which means you have to be aggressive in following the plan to lose weight as well, both in the beginning and during the times throughout the year when it gets a little harder.

Now if you had a more moderate goal, perhaps 18 months to lose 112 pounds, you would need to lose 1.44 pounds a week which is entirely possible if you stay on track.

If you take 2 years you would need to lose 1.08 pounds a week which is certainly doable and much easier to attain.

You have to also keep in mind that the first six months provide the most rapid weight loss so what you are averaging there would have to offset later months where you are closer to normal weight and it is harder to take it off. You have to consider that you are automatically burning more calories a day to support the excess weight and this will not apply quite so much as you get smaller.

I am at 7 months today and have now lost 81% of my excess weight of 85 pounds that would bring me to a normal BMI.

If I could keep losing every week at the rate I have been losing for the past seven months . . . in a 1 year period, I think that would be 118 pounds. I also follow the plan 95% of the time, I don't eat processed carbs, and workout vigorously for at least an hour daily.

However, I am finding that it is getting pretty darn hard to keep losing as steadily as I did in the beginning now that I am close to goal.

Everyones body is sooo different. What works great for one person may not work well at all for another. It is difficult to say how your journey will progress until you have done it . . . but no matter what, if you follow the plan and get your exercise in you will definitely lose.

The trikke is very difficult on a hill. It's really meant for flat, smooth surfaces. I usually ride on back roads or parking lots. If you have bike trails near you that works too. You can google bike paths and see where there are bike paths near you. As far as the swerving back and forth being dangerous in traffic, I usually ride against the traffic. That way I can look the drivers in the eye and they realize that I can see them, and they can see me. I always wear a helmet.

I am 6 months post op and have lost 70 pounds. I am eating a lot and might need a fill. I exercise 6 days a week, working out at a gym. I think excersise is the key. I am tight on my tummy and arms but have a bit of baba butt. I'm working on it. I'm really happy with my weight loss so far, but could not have done it without working out. I have to keep reminding my self that the band is a aide not a cure.

If you're going to do it, exercise is very important.

I lost 120% of my excess weight (100lb give or take) but it took me 2 and years to do it - and that was with lots of running. But I refused to "diet" as well so I had my band looser, ate more and particularly ate carbs which a lot of bandsters dont do. But I do credit my success to running. So if you're prepared to exercise AND diet strictly, I think you could do it.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
