How much walking after surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm still going through my 6 month waiting period before I get approved and hopefully will be ready by October or November. My question is - everyone says that after surgery, you should do alot of walking to get rid of the gas. How much walking per day are we talking about?

I was banded on 8-1-08 and I didn't have any gas.... I walked right after surgery no problem and no gas....I'm two weeks out and I feel like it never happened... Oh the 12 pounds gone is good.

WALK, WALK AND WALK SOME MORE....take it easy...but let me tell you it helps to prevent gas pain in your shoulders..and it is well worth it.

as far as fitness walking...I was able to get back to normal, pull the hill type walking by week 2.....I would tire allot easier...but???? Not sure if that was surgery, or my lack of proper exercise....:grouphug:

good luck all of you....Traci

Walk as much as you feel like it.

On surgery day and the first day after, I pretty much stayed around the house, but walked in the house a whole lot.

The second day after, I went to church and worked. After that, I was walking and acting normally. No one knew after that, so it was OK.

But just walk as much as you feel like - it's not a how much exactly, but more of a just keep going.

And sometimes walk more than you feel like. :) An aquaintance of mine died from a blood clot after her surgery. She didn't feel like walking, so she didn't. You have to MOVE YOUR BODY!!

It doesn't have to be an official walk outside or in the gym on a treadmill. It can just be walking around the living room every 30 minutes or so. Just don't sit and lay around.

My first official walk, I managed to go 2.5 blocks from my house before I had to turn around. But I did it anyway because I've had a blood clot before and they are not fun (assuming they don't kill you).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
