Anyone near Frederick/Hagerstown?

Recommended Posts

Hi There!

I live in Frederick as well and would love to start a friendship with someone going through the same thing as I am!

I was banded on Aug 28 by Dr. Gorman with Summit Bariatric Group out of Chambersburg Hospital! I know, a long distance to drive, but when I started the process (1/08) Frederick and Hagerstown hospitals were not offering any programs!

So, now that I am banded, my doc's office said that I can attend other support groups that are closer to home. I plan on attending the support group in Hagerstown with you!

I know that you must be excited about your upcoming banding! I am still very happy but ready to go back to regular foods. The creamy stuff is really boring and it is difficult on my family when we are out and about and they are hungry. We have to search around for a place where I can eat something too! Sucks for them.

Congratulations on getting this far on your journey! I look forward to talking to you again soon!

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but their support group is NOT geared towards banders and I was extremely disappointed that the focus is all on bypassers. I was required to attend one meeting before surgery, so I went a couple of weeks ago. Here is the post I made about it when I got home :

There is allegedly another support group in Rockville that I'm thinking of trying. It is supposed to ONLY be for banders. I got the information from my nutritionist.

Institute for Genomic Research

Time: 1st and 3rd Thurs of every month 6:30-8:30

Location: 9712 Medical Center Drive Rockville, MD

POC: 301-251-4128

I'm planning on going next month- husband works night shift every other month and he's working night shift this month. I don't like bringing a toddler in tow where I don't know if he's welcome. :blushing:

Anyway, great to speak with you! I'd love to have a local person to speak with about this.

Hi all!

I'm in Hagerstown, but I plan to be banded by Dr. Barry Greene at Shady Grove. He is one of the best! They have several support groups a month. Go to www.advancedwls.com to get the schedule. I plan on going to the Robinwood support group this month with a co-worker who is planning on doing bypass.

I have my paperwork submitted now, and have started on the liquid pre-op diet, since I have Federal BC, which is basically a guarantee, so I am hoping to be banded by the end of the month.

Good Luck to all!

Hi, eviebell. Why are you going so far away? I had my surgical consult on Monday with Dr. Prashar in Hagerstown. I'm scheduled for the psych consultation later this month. At that point, the timing will just depend on how quickly my insurance company turns around the approval.

Hello Everyone,

I was banded on New Year's Eve 08 by Dr. Barry Greene in Rockville. He is simply amazing! Check out his website at www.advancedwls.com. He offers many support groups and informational meetings and his staff is very available at all times. He has an insurance liason that is out of this world and his PAC, Linda is the most supportive person. I highly recommend this practice. They advocate a low-carb lifestyle - and for me it is paying off - slowly but surely - I just reached 80 pounds lost since my surgery date - which is not too bad for only being 6 months post op! Good luck to everyone!

agyles - just a head's up - - -Dr. Greene does not participate with any insurance plans anymore - but they will file for you - which is a huge help! He is worth the $$ and really it is not too expensive, I just saw him yesterday for some major work (barium swallow) and I paid $150 upfront and the rest they are submitting for me! They are the best!!!

I am in Smithsburg md and I do attend the meetings at Robinwood. Robinwood is more of an information type meeting. I want a more of talk to each other and figure out what works and just support each other. They do lap band discussions I was told every other meeting.

I live in Sharpsburg but have always been a fan of Baltimore healthcare so that's where I had planned on getting surgery. The cost is 15000. Anyone who knows cost of any other areas with a good doctor would be greatly appreciated. I understand the phrase you get what you pay for but 4000 only goes to the doctor and 11000 to the hospital. I have to admit I am pretty scare to go to Mexico.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
