Pain management after surgery? What did you have?

Recommended Posts

I have been reading so many posts about how painful the surgery was and mine was just minor discomfort. I had an On-Q Painbuster pouch and I'm wondering if this had something to do with my less painful recovery. Did anyone else have one? Just curious.

Shelby~ I am right there with you. I had some discomfort but breezed right through. I was on Lortab, but used it for a few days and was off of it by the third day.

I am glad it was 'easy' for me, I have had a rough surgery, and that was no fun!

You wouldn't believe the pain I had and I am still in pain. I was very sick/dizzy after the surgery. I have never had any kind of surgery before so it was horrible. Everything hurt. The only thing that hurts now is where the band is. I called the dr. and they said it was normal. I'm glad none of you had a hard time like I did.

I went to see my doctor today for the last time before surgery. He gave me a prescription for Tylonel with codine. However, I've read many threads where people only used Tyonel with out the codine.

If you think you will need pain medication you may want to consider asking your doctor for the prescription early so you can have it filled and at home when you get back. You really do not want to have to wait in a pharmacy after surgery in pain or discomfort.

I didnt need anything apart from the post anaesthetic effect (and I'm pretty sure I got some morphine in the IV post surgery). But once I was off the IV I never took anything, I really wasnt in any pain.

i kinda had an unusual experience..well maybe not too unusual. but when i had surgery last tuesday...the doc found a hiatal hernia as well that needed repaired. after surgery i didn't get one of the drugs he likes to give his patients because some of my levels were too high. so i got some morphine in recovery, and then didn't get anything until i complained about a headache 7 hours later (and mind you i kept telling the nurses that i didn't feel well and thought i couldn't breathe). i didn't start feeling better until saturday. i was on percocet and only used 10 of the 30 he wrote for me. i'm much better now...just have the soreness from the hernia repair now..

I came home with liquid percoset, which I didn't use at all the first day but definitely needed the second once all the surgery drugs wore off. I think I used it day two and three, then that was about it.

The doc also sent me home with an anti-nausea med in a suppository form, which thank dog I have not needed!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
