my dr will not add more than 1 cc at a time... and i basically had to beg for that when i wasn't seeing any results. i now have 8 cc's in a 10 cc band and just now (3+ weeks after fill i might add) am seeing a little restriction...

I was banded on 6/25/08 and had my first fill on 8/5. My doctor put 1 cc in my 10 cc band and I go back on 8/19 for another fill, after 2 weeks from my first. Usually he waits a month between fills, but since I'm traveling the beginning of Sept. he wanted to go ahead an do my next fill in advance enough to make sure I didn't have any problems and somthing get stuck when I'm away from home. He also said that he likes to try to be careful not to get someone too tight.

What I've found is that I don't feel a lot of restriction, but I have found that if I'm not careful and eat too fast or don't chew well enough, I have experienced twice now since my fill the awful, hurting feeling when food gets "stuck". So ....I don't mind being in "training".

The only thing is that if I get too hungry, it's when I eat too fast or take too big of a bite. I'm sure that after I get the right restriction I won't get so hungry.

I don't mind at all going slow on the fills so that I can educate myself and learn to adjust my eating as I get tighter.

My first fill was less than 1cc.

The nurse put in 0.6.

It was explained that it is better to get a small fill, and need a few more than to get too full and have to be unfilled. After reading stories of people who have trouble keeping down Water because they are too tight, I am glad my clinic takes a conservative approach.

It took me 4 or 5 fills to get to this restriction.

I am going to be completely unfilled next week, because I am having a TT. Funny thing is, I am much more scared of being hungry than I am of the cutting/stitches etc.

It sounds like your doc has your best interests in mind.

You are gonna do great !

i go for my first fill on the 26th and i know the doc only plans on adding 2 cc's to my already 3cc's which is standard i am pretty sure (someone please correct me if i am wrong) when they put the band on. so really you have 4 cc's in your band atm and i will have 5cc's

My first fill my doc put in 2.5 cc's. He goes based on the drinking method in order to establish the right amount of cc's. I didn't have any real restriction until my 2nd fill a week and half ago (now at 4 cc) and am now feeling what Bas experienced with the whole eating thing. I haven't been able to eat any solids since then because of the the stuck feeling. And trust me! That stuck feeling has left me in distress plenty of times, so bad that I walk around the house trying to breath and sip Water. Sometimes I resort to hot tea and just allow the time to pass before that stuck feeling goes away. At times I will bust out in a mild sweat from it. But like Bas said, I thinks its because I am not chewing it down like we should and am probably eating a bit fast still.

Anyway, didn't mean to get off the subject, but it could be that your doc is trying to acclimate you to the band. Most of the bandsters I've spoken to at my doc's office have shared that they didn't really get that restriction until they hit the 3 or 4cc.

Just hang in there... :wink2:

HA! Trinity - when you described walking around the house trying to get your breath and taking sips of Water to get what you ate down, I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about! I did the exact SAME thing! I couldn't hardly believe that after my first fill of only 1 cc that it happened, because it didn't happen to me before the first small fill. Sure taught me a lesson though! When I think I've chewed enough, just go ahead and chew some more before swallowing! :-)

I'm so glad that I got the band, am very happy with the results so far, and really looking forward to my second fill on Tuesday. Tonight, for some reason, the hunger really set in for the first time since my surgery.

Laurinda - I'll be curious to know how many cc's you get for your second fill so I can compare with what my doc does.

He normally schedules the first and second fill one month apart. But for me he scheduled the second fill for 2 weeks after the first fill since I'll be traveling at the one month part.

I'm hoping for a 1.5 cc or 2.0 cc fill on my second visit, and I'll discuss that with him, but will go with his recommendation.

Today was my first fill. My surgery was June 27. The surgeon put in 4cc and wants me back at the end of sept for more. He said from that point it will probably be only .5cc at a time. Today I am on Protein Shakes and cream Soup and no problem so far.I was surprised that he put in that much frankly and a little scared but I feel okay. I have the realize band.

Sorry for the delay. We moved and are stuck with Comcast (I miss Fios) and have had way too many internet problems. You won't feel too much of a restriction, but you should lose weight though very slowly. These past few days I have tried to chew my food down and even eat more slowly, but for some reason my food still gets stuck. I have been slimming and "vomiting" 3 times within the last few days. It has been very exhausting. liquids seem to be my best bet now. But for you, I would enjoy the foods you can before your doc tightens it. I found it more difficult now to eat than before. I have came close to calling my doc numerous times, but am confused on whether or not I should have him take out 1/2 cc or something. I am losing weight pretty steady, and sometimes even more than I should. I am now down to 241 but it has been pure torture these last few days.

When is your next appt?

My doctor did 1 cc the first time to see how your body reacts. The second fill I had was 2 cc's. They do not want to rush into anything. I did not feel anything after my first fill...I seemed even more hungry. I definately can feel it now......

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
