Help.......I have just completed my first week of pre-op diet which consisted of a slim fast shake for Breakfast and lunch, afternoon snack of cottage cheese and a low-cal ham or turkey sandwich. I have done really really well with losing almost 10 pounds this week. I am just so jonesing for a pizza or cheeseburger from 5 five guys....lol

I know it's sad, and I need to make a strong effort if I wanna take a serious approach to getting banded. Any suggestions on how to cope with the hunger spells?

Thanks

Chris:tt2:

Hey Chris,

Don't know if this will help you get through the 'craving/jonesing place you are in....

How about this ....It's NOT like you don't know what pizza and cheeseburgers taste like....

And...

say out loud...I want to FEEL Thin MORE than I want to Taste ______

I really know how you feel...it sucks...just MOVE and do something to get your head off the food focus...

What is it you are really feeding....head hunger or body hunger...???

Hi...I'm being banded Sept.30th & today I received paperwork for my diet prep. Adkins/SouthBeach diet with small modifications; 2 weeks before surgery I do 2 Protein Shakes & 1 lowcarb/lowfat meal a day; day before surgery its' clear liquids only with minimum 8 hr. fast. My DS who is a very big Adkins fan is going to help me with recipes for survival. Since I am looking at this whole process as a total lifestyle change, I'm thinking my food will probably be SB phase 2/3 & thats ok

I do know my simple carbs are probably a thing of the past.

what i do to try to break a craving... eating out is the easiest.. just imagine that the person making it dropped it on the floor, or spit in it or something. picture chewing dirt or it tasting moldy. it is still very hard, especially the pre op diet.. good luck

1.Just keep reminding yourself that this pre-op weight loss will make the surgery safer for you (I was told that the liver is usually fatty and gets "in the way" when placing the band) and 2. The weight that you lose pre-op is going to STAY OFF THIS TIME! YEAH!

Hello, a fellow Richmonder here!! I am on my pre-op diet also, being banded on 8/14 by Dr. Schroeder at St. Marys. I just want nachos!! This is not as easy as I thought!! I have the chills and am extremely grumpy. I have drank so much Water that I feel like I am going to float away! I apologize, I am venting and want a snack! I understand completely how you feel. We have to try to be strong and get through this without going to Five Guys or getting nachos!!!

Hey Agw, I am getting banded at St. Marys too on 8/18. I go for my lab work this coming wed. According to my paperwork is say I don't have to fast which is kinda odd. Did you have your pre-op testing yet? I am getting banded by Dr. Brengman. Also how long have you been on the pre-op diet?

It seems that you guys are on a two week pre-op diet.. Kaiser tells us to start as soon as orientation is over, which is fine for me.

I have been doing very well with cravings. Kaiser's pre-op regimin is:

no caffinee, no gum, no drinking calories, no carbonation, NO SNACKING! and we have a limited amount of foods to choose from. We can basically eat all meats, cheeses, fruits and veggies. We can only eat toast, taco shells, wheat crackers, cream of wheat/rice/grits for carbs. Dairy: Milk, or Yogurt since eggs and cheese counts as Protein on this pre-op diet.

So my Breakfast is:

3 Proteins (usually an 3 ounces of meat or 2 eggs and 1 ounce cheese)

1 fruit serving

1 carb serving

1 dairy serving

1 fat serving

lunch

3 Protein

1 fruit

1 vegetable

1 fat

1 carb

Dinner:

3 protein

2 vegs

1 carb

1 dairy

1 fat

I started at 265 on Tuesday morning, I am down to 253.8 as of this morning!

Well I was all by myself today and was very temped to make a stop at five guys, however I decided to have a small chef salad. Glad I didn't cheat would of really felt disappointed in myself for not taking a serious approach.

trust me I know how you feel, this is only my 2nd day on the Optifast liquid diet. Yesterday was by far the worst, I was starving all day. I did notice that I needed to keep busy and keep my mind off of food. Today is going much better, just keeping busy and trying to avoid food. I made my husband do the grocery shopping, cooking and feeding the kids. That has helped alot. God what I would do for a burger right now. I really hope I can make the next 10 days!!!! I keep in mind is that its going to feel SO good to be thin! I think of clothes shopping, and looking good in a pair of jeans and honestly thats enough to keep me motivated. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. When is your surgery date? Mine is the 20th!

at least you can have salad, all I can have is 4 Optifast drinks 2 Optifast bars and sugar free Jello and thats it! Man at this point a small salad would be a treat!! LOL Never knew I liked food this much, guess thats why I am in this position now Keep your head up it will be worth it in the end, and you will be so proud of yourself!

Dacoz21...The night before surgery I am unable to have anything to eat or drink. They will tell you that when you go to pre-op testing. I had my pre-op testing this past Monday. I am sure you have the same rules as I do since our docs are in the same office. I am currentlt having a shake for breakfast, a shake and apple for lunch, a yogurt for snack, 40z of lean Protein for dinner and baby carrots as a snack at nite. I am not hungry but just want everything I can't have right now. I only have 4 more days of this until surgery. One thing that has helped me is sugar free grape kool-aid. It has helped with my sweet cravings.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
