Losing, it's not just the hormones. I have never heard of this either. That sounds a little over the top to me. Of course, we've all heard of regestering for wedding gifts and baby showers, but birthdays???? That's a new one.....

I had never heard of this either---until we went into Toys R Us, and they have it advertised all over the store!! I was there without anyones list, but thought at the time, my kids better NEVER!!!! LOL!!!

My SIL, let us all know, so we would not have to be bothered shopping, that her grandson who was graduating really just wanted $$$$. Made me so mad that she did that, that I rethought things, and instead of writing him a check as I had intended, I bought him a gift!

I guess it all boils down to not liking to be told what to do!!! LOL

Boycott the list! Buy what you want! Honestly kids, go into TRU and 2 days later when they go in they want different things anyway!

How spoiled does that make a child, being able to pick out their own birthday gifts? I rememeber when I was young and I made a comment about not liking something that was given to me, I was put in my room and had all my gifts taken away. It certainly taught me to be appreciative for what I got. Same goes for my kids. They should be happy that anyone gives them anything, not going around choosing outrageously expensive gifts themselves. Wow. I have heard about this before, but I guess I just thought that people really did not actually do it.

Children's birthday parties have gotten out of hand over the last 10 years or so. A cake party and freinds is just not enough anymore. A child has to have a "theme" to their party. And now there is a gift registration... what next?

Wow, that's crazy! Seems people have lost the meaning of the word "gift"!

I wouldn't buy anything on the list and would have also accidently deleted it! Of course, if they were a really close friend I'd tell 'em what's what. lol

I had a little girl send an intivation home with my daughter that had a suggest gift list on the invitation. Needless to say she just got a card. I have protested the whole birthday party out do each other thing for the last 9 years. We have a family birthday thing where we go out to dinner, and then (when we had one in town) we would go to the book store and let the girls pick out a nice book. It was fun for them to have the waiters sing to them and then getting to pick out a really good book was enough to make my kids happy. If parents keep setting the bar higher the kids will never grow up to be happy with what they have.

I have a friend who does this with her kids. She shared her sons' lists for birthdays and Christmas with me. It was at one of those specialty toy stores, where they don't seem to sell anything under $40 or so. She then went on and on about all the things they were buying from the lists and she checked it regularly to see if anybody else had bought things from the list. Her kids are SPOILED.

She also did something that I found bizarre--her 7 year old opened his gifts from her and her husband, and her parents, at his Chuck E cheese birthday party with all of his friends. Among many other things, he got a digital camera (not a kid one, a real one) and a digital camcorder. My kids open their gifts from their party guests at their party, and gifts from us and family ON their birthday. I've never seen kids open gifts from their parents at the party their friends are invited to. It seems like bragging "look what I can buy my kids" to me.

People always ask me what my kids want so they have wish lists I can send to people when they ask. But you should never include it in an invitation. That's bad manners.

At first I was going to try to suggest that maybe it's the parents' way of controlling what kind of toys/clothes are given to their child (I know a lot of people who don't want certain things in the house like battery operated toys, or plastic stuff, or things affiliated with a particular "brand" like Disney Princesses and things etc) but I think if that's the case they should do the "your presence is present enough" thing (getting pretty popular at children's parties I hear).

You're totally right, that is really tacky, especially if everything is so expensive. You can report them here (or just read the site, it's hysterical at some points) Etiquette Hell

Wow! I want to turn 7 again so I can get a digital camcorder!

What the heck does a kid want with that??

I think this whole idea is ridiculous!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
