I'm totally confused abiut this stuck thing. Does it happen in your stomach or in your throat? I keep having a hard time with a bad choking feeling like when you get something stuck in your throat and need a drink to wash it down. Is that stuck or is there a different feeling of stuck that I have been fortunate to not have experienced yet? I know your not supposed to drink with meals and I do very well not to but when this feeling happens it's almost impossible not to drink because it feels like I'm gonna choke to death. Has anyone else experienced this.

It sounds like you may not be chewing your food enough, if it actually feels like you've got to drink to make it go down.( I used to have that feeling awhile back. It was a compulsive disorder, it felt like what I was trying to swallow, was getting stuck in my throat, and I would panic and feel that I was strangling, like no air was getting through, and I would wash it down with a big gulp of liquid. I was frantic, not realizing that I could still breathe through my nose and reminding myself to calm down.) Just slow down ,chew alot and take things slowly. I have to tell myself to slow down at every meal.

You are probably getting stuck or maybe too full.

Did you ever take too hard a swallow on your drink and get a pain? (kinda feels like a large air bubble traveling downward--throat to stomach). To me getting stuck feels a lot like that only the pain travels upward and can last longer.

I also get a choking/gagging feeling in my throat when I've had enough or too much to eat, could that be it?

yes, that is getting stuck, then do you get that slimy gack in your mouth? sometimes I can't talk and can barely breath when that happens. The reason is that I am not taking small enough bites and not chewing good enough. This almost always happens when I let myself get to hungry and I just want to scarf food as fast as I can, like I used to do.

I was coming in to ask the same question. I moved to mushies yesterday and at dinner, ate quite quickly and more than I have been since surgery - maybe 2/3 of a cupful. Immediately after, I felt pain high up in my sternum, like a big gas bubble was stuck there. I sipped on Water to ease it, but it took 20 mins for the feeling to start to disappear.

I'm wondering if I ate too much or the food was not mushy enough (mince, carrot and gravy?)

I just had my first fill on Monday and now suddenly when I eat, shortly afterwards I get a pain in my chest, like pressure and it almost feels hard to take deep breaths, not shortness of breath but just a slight pain when I breathe deep. Is this getting stuck, it last for a hour or so...

You will find that eating in the morning is very difficult and almost impossible once you get more fills. Take very small bites and chew it until it's like applesauce. My Dr. told me to cut up the meat to the size of a kernal of corn. Once I started doing that and waiting at least a minute in between bites, it was much better. No tightness, slimey gack or PB's. I think that one of the harder things to learn is when to stop. Listen to your body. That tightness in your chest is very uncomfortable and can last for awhile so stop before you get there.

You might want to mention this to your Dr. My mom (who isn't banded) has experienced this too and she has a hiatial hernia and will

be getting treatment for that.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
