What do i need after Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am being banded in 4 days! I cannot wait. I am going on my last shopping trip this weekend so I don't have to be running around afterwards. Is there anything that you guys would recommend I pick up? Thanks in advanced!!!

Gas X strips are a must. Gauze pads in case you need to cover any incisions. Protein in a form you can easily drink and tolerate - for me it is the protein bullets mixed with Crystal Lite. Good Luck with your upcoming surgery.

Thanks so much! My doctor never mentioned gas pains at all!

Gas pains are the only discomfort I had after surgerey. Walking helps the most.

You won't believe how quickly the next couple of days will go by! Good luck with the surgery!

I had to be on Clear liquids for 3 days. Make sure you drink your Water, don't miss a sip. It is really easy to get dehydrated. I also have found that the SF Popsicles are very nice to have, you get your liquid and it feels good on the throat - mine was a bit sore day 1 and 2. I did get the Gas-X strips, but I have not had any gas pain - I feel lucky because I have experienced that in the past and it is uncomfortable. I also had sf jell-o and added a Protein bullet to it and it wasn't that bad! You can also dilute juice - I have had some cranberry and apple juice diluted 50/50 with Water. I have also used the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth, very good source of Protein.< /p>

I also took chapstick to the hospital, my lips were really dry and that was nice to have post-op. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it...I cannot be believe in 3 days I will be on the other side!!!! I am super excited. Just not looking forward to being on a liquid diet until Sept 3rd when I go back to the doctors for a check up! My reward is that I am going to Las Vegas at the end of sept!

You will be fine. I found that having a midsized "hard" pillow is a must. You put it over your abdominal and hold tight when you sneeze, cough or laugh...my mom is a nurse and had that in her bag of tricks it really helps...Also helps on the bumps of car rides.

Congrats!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
