Looking for new friends. Waiting for surgery.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I just joined today. I got approval for surgery and it's now official. I have a few more things I need to get done before I will get my date scheduled. My EGD is set for the 20th, my cardio clearance set for the 11th. I have been working with a nutritionist and the doctor for 3 months. I am excited but scared at the same time. It's actually going to happen! If your waiting for surgery to, lets be friends! If you just had surgery, I would love to hear of your experience and be friends. Just watching your success will be motivating for me. Please drop by and say hello. :w00t:

Hi! I am also waiting anxiously for surgery. I was supposed to have it done in March but insurance denied it at the last minute (EKG appt.). Grr... Anyway, I will be a self pay and now have my consultation with a different DR. on the 12th. I am also very nervous but excited. Am hoping to have surgery scheduled around the middle of Sept. I see you are in WA, where are you having your surgery done?

Hello, I just joined 2 days ago. I have been working on all the Dr. appointment, test, paperwork for 7 months now. I got the final approval from the surgeon 2 weeks ago. I had just one more thing to do as far as paperwork and I finished that Tuesday. That Dr. said that he would have the paperwork to my surgeon tomorrow. Then they will call me to set my surgery date. I will have to go on a liquid diet for two weeks before surgery. But I am ready to go! Boy am I scared! haha :)

Hi Juliana, it is nice to hear the positive response. I am so glad that you are doing good. I am starting to get a little discouraged. I had hoped to have a surgery date by now. I have just got off the phone with the Dr. office, after alot more paperwork last week and they still do not have a date yet for surgery. I was all built up and now that is starting to fade quickly. Eight months is a long time to wait getting everything done. They are nice enough and have reasons for everything, but just not getting it done. It is starting to make be doubt doing it.

Hey memommie!!! Don't give up!! It will happen. My whole process took one year....it's a long story..... 6 month supervised diet, then my doctor had not charted correctly, then i had to have my gallbladder taken out in the meantime.. (so many other things kept happening) but anyway, it finally happened. And it was worth the wait. Just stay on them about the papaerwork!! I will say a prayer for you!! Hang in there honey. Keep me updated!!! Talk to you soon

Hello Everyone,

I am getting banded on Thursday morning 8-21-08, I am excited and a guess a little nervous. I am a nurse and I am well aware of what is going to occur during surgery. It the post op diet that worries me. Were you hungry during this liquid phase? I have no problem sticking to the diet if my hunger in in check. Well good to meet you ladies, wish me luck and good luck with all the insurance stuff. It took me about 6 months which was pretty quick from what I have read on here.

Hi vsnowrn. Welcome. I am a nurse also. I was banded june 2. I didn't have hunger until about 9 days post op. I just stuck to the diet and knew it would get better. I have a lot of hunger now, and get my first fill on thursday. I just continue to eat what i am supposed to and eat small amounts. I just remind myself that i didn't go through this surgery for nothing, and i want my life back and to be able to have children. That keeps me going and that helps me fight my cravings... :) You can do it! It is not easy all the time, or a bed of roses, but it will not be as hard as you think. And just think about your goals and why you are doing this, and you will be able to have control. I love my band and have no regrets. I would do it again anyday.

Good Luck :tongue2: Keep us updated :cool2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
